Screen Time is a simple app that allows you to set limits on the amount of time you children use an iPhone or iPad. Set a time length, press start and pass it to you children. After the time expires, a series of notifications will prevent your children from using the device until you enter the correct passcode.
Parents, educators and health professionals are concerned about the length of time that today's children are exposed to electronic devices. However, the recreational and educational potential of the iPhone and iPad make it a favorite of parents and children. Screen Time is a simple solution to help set and control limits to your children's interaction with an iPhone or iPad.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
1. Unlock Screen Time by setting or entering a 4 digit passcode
2. Drag your finger across the clock to set the time
3. Set the user by tapping on the 'Users' icon
4. Press "Start"
5. Pass your iPhone or iPad to your child and let them use the phone any way you choose (e.g. apps, movies, music)
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
After your predetermined time, the device will receive a series of notifications (just like text messages) alerting your child that their "Screen Time is up!". Your children will be unable to continue using the phone until the passcode is correctly entered.
They will have to return the device to your to enter the passcode. Now, you can revel in the fact that you are providing good boundaries for using technology.

What's New in Version 1.1
- Now you can visualize your children's Screen Time usage with graphs
- Add 'Users' and you can view their individual Screen Time usage
- Enter your email to recover your forgotten passcode
- Fixed Bug where it was possible to remove notifications without entering passcode
Everyone is complaining because they don't have the app set up properly before they use it.
The dev should state clearly that you must first go to Settings > Notification Center > Screen Time. Make sure the alert style is set to Alerts instead of Banners. I don't like the noise, so I turned off Sounds (a little less stress inducing while entering your passcode) Now you're good to go!
Sure, you have to tap quickly on the View button when the notifications are flashing, but once you manage to hit the View button (never takes me more than 2-3 seconds) and it launches the app, the alerts stop flashing and you're able to enter your passcode.
This is a great app, though not very intuitive to use, but with a bit of setup it becomes very useful.
Great idea but doesn't work with iPad
At least, it didn't for us. I installed the app thinking it was exactly what I've been looking for to help with turn taking for my boys. Upon basic installation, the notifications for alert style were set to banners, when it really needs to be set on alerts for it to be noticeable. If not, they can continue to play with just a small flashing banner on the top. Once the notifications were set to alerts, the notifications repeat to keep the person from continuing without entering the passcode. unfortunately, they kept repeating and I was unable to enter my passcode. I was also unable to close the app at all. The only way I could proceed was to perform a hard reboot of the iPad. I would really like something like this. I think it would be the perfect timer. I look forward to an updated version. :)
I thought it was not working because when you close out of the application it doesn't show the mat of time remaining. But, after doing a quick test for 1 minute I realized it was working. It would be nice if there was a countdown on the screen somewhere - my daughter has autism and a countdown would really help her prepare for the end of computer time.
