You won’t find a better value anywhere...

This program has been my single favorite “go to” program for SO many things over the years. I first started using ScreenFlow 2, and have been using it ever since. The developers are consistently responsive to resolve issues, and each of their upgrades provide very usable value. (Prior versions were in the $99 range and STILL felt like a GREAT value…)

I have used this program to create close to 1000 screen-captured tutorial videos over the past few years. ScreenFlow is also a phenomenal, functional video editor. Not only that, but the features that they include like Audio normalization, Ducking, and Background noise removal are typically add-on plugins that cost FAR more than the current price of ScreenFlow. (Which is a STEAL for the features and quality included.)

It doesn’t give you the depth and breadth of Final Cut X or Premiere Pro, or After Effects (All of which I use frequently), and yet, for MOST people, it has a very robust, very USABLE toolset. It is the ONE piece of software that has saved me in a pinch more times than I can count. I can get in and out of it to do a quick audio or video edit before Premiere or Final Cut would have even finished loading.

I’m so glad this version continues the already excellent featureset and so-far, seems to REALLY build on it. Thank you for an aweseome piece of software and a fantastic value!

Crashes, corrupts files, waste of money

I had used Screenflow in the past and always been disappointed by how often it crashes and loses files, but had hoped it improved over the years. It hasn’t. I spent 10 hours working on a video, saving every 5 minutes, but after I closed the file and reopened it a short time later, it had lost all my files and progress. I finally re-created it (saving in TWO places now) and now the app stops responding any time I try to reopen either version of the video. The app also crashes periodically while working on files. When searching for help on these issues, there are countless other people posting about similar (and more) problems, going back through the years. In short, it’s a buggy program that definitely isn’t worth the cost. It’s easy to learn and great when it works, but not worth the frustration of constantly losing so much work.

The Comcast of recording programs

All I can say is, if you use screenflow - you will want to buy a punching bag. Because it’s not IF, but simply when your screenflow will crash in the middle of a recording, never to be seen again. If you are recording anything under 10 minutes, you are golden. You will only experience a crash, system outage, memory coruption approximately 50% of the time. However, if you plan on recording anything more than 10 minutes, my advice is restart your computer before hand. Let it ‘rest’. Make sure it has plenty of memory and battery. Screenflow will use ALL of your 16 gigs to record your project. If you have less than 16 gigs, screenflow is not for you.

The challenge is, when it works, it works well. When it doesn’t work, you want to put your foot through every wall in your house.
