Updated User Experience
Might be useful to someone who
This app might be useful to those who've never used screenwriting software like Final Draft or Movie Magic - or even formatting macros on Microsoft Word.
If your primary word-processing software on a computer is Final Draft - stay away from this app. Each element of the screen not only requires a separate onscreen button press, it demands you dismiss logic.
The app prevents you from writing a slug line, action, character name and dialogue in the same view window. That's right - each of those elements has to somehow be entered individually.
I could not figure out how to add characters or dialogue to a scene. So I went hunting for instructions. Then for a support website. The website exists, but the App Store description gives more information. This taught me a valuable lesson: don't buy apps unless the developer has more than a single page website. That lesson only cost me $2.99.
It's surprising the user interface was accepted by a usually demanding Apple app review.
The five star ratings this app received are beyond dubious. For the most part, the voice patterns read like they're written by the same reviewer. One of the five star reviewers has given 5 star reviews to 54 apps. Another has given 5 star reviews to 32 apps.
I wish it had more instructions to it. I bought it on a whim because i needed a screenwriting program for my ipad. I like the fact that you can import/export final draft format, i tried importing and it adds extra unwanted things. It exports to final draft 8 but it's formating structure is off a bit, it's bothersome to have to fix the sluglines.
The only thing on it i can't figure out though is how to put (v.o.) and (cont.) next to the name, i've seen it done on the sample that comes with the program though.
It's a good buy if you are beginning screen writing, but it does need improvements and a more in depth instruction manual.
I wish the people at Final Draft would get their iPad app finished, as I have downloaded about five different screenwriting apps, the latest being SCREENWRITING for $2.99.
I don't like having to choose the separate icons for action, characters, parentheticals, etc, but I got used to it. I was happy just to be writing on my iPad. The frustration started seeping in when I tried to insert a missing character name above some dialogue, a mistake I made in my joyous flurry of writing. Well, I can't. There isn't a way to insert it, other than re-write the whole scene.
I thought I'd be savvy, and export it, and edit within the newly exported file. IT WON'T EXPORT. I've tried closing the app and re-opening it, hoping it would trigger something. STILL WON'T EXPORT.
There is no support, help search bar, or manual for this app.
It was only $2.99, but how much do you lose in time and energy when you cannot professionally edit, and more importantly, EXPORT.
I sincerely hope someone at Final Draft can help us SOON !!!
