Disaster Preparedness Starts With You

Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to plan in advance: how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different disaster situations. The SD Emergency app contains disaster preparedness information, like:

• The ability to import or create your own emergency plan, plus the option to share with family and friends*
• The ability to build an emergency supplies kit that can be backed up and restored*
• Notifications when your emergency plan and kit are expired*

And when disaster strikes, the SD Emergency app will keep you and your family informed with:

• Emergency updates
• Interactive emergency maps
• Shelter locations

Plus, the app features a recovery section with resources during the aftermath of disasters.

The County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services (OES) created the SD Emergency app to better prepare and inform San Diego County residents and visitors about disasters. With SD Emergency, the tools you need to plan, prepare and respond in an emergency are right at your fingertips.

Please limit unhelpful notifications and change sound

Terbie

Due to the Lilac Fire, this app has exploded in notifications... Unfortunately most are super unhelpful. It would be great if they could limited notifications to only truly emergency info.

Here are some of the notifications I've received:
"DA warns of price gouging"
"Looking for ways to help? Monetary donations recommended"

Why are these worthy of the terrifying notification sound? I don't want to turn off notifications in case there is actually helpful info, but they are encouraging me to by having all updates appear equally important by notifying me of all of them.

It would also be helpful to be able to change the notification sound to be something other than the smoke alarm chirp that's the default. When you are worried about fires, smoke alarm noises are super stressful.

The maps, shelter info, and volunteer info is super helpful. That part is top notch.

Junk notifications

I downloaded this app during the SoCal wildfires to receive updates about the Lilac fire's proximity to my location and other need-to-know alerts. Unfortunately, I now receive dozens of junk push alerts that are not truly emergency alerts. Some recent ones include:
-"Cleaning Ash from Property and Pools";
-"Staying Prepared for Continuing High Fire Risk Conditions";
-"What do Do During a Power Outage"; and,
-"Looking for a Way to Help? Monetary Donations Recommended."

There is no way to select which alerts you receive and it's really ridiculous that I'm receiving these junk alerts- if I really needed to know how to clean ash from my pool, I could certainly Google it. I don't need to be interrupted during work or when I'm sleeping with a fire-alarm sounding tone just for these spam-y notifications.

To me, it seems like quite a manipulation of the App and so far gone from the App's supposed intention.

A must-download for SD residents

I don’t understand the negative reviews. This app is fantastic. I downloaded it after the fires last year, and yesterday received a text, email, push notification, and phone call of my neighborhood being evacuated (gas pipeline rupture). This app can literally be a life saver.
