Segmentix is a invaluable study tool for all art students, photographers and designers. It simplifies any type of photography into its core values and reduces non-important details using specially developed natural Segmentation.
The result image can be used alone but more importantly it can be used as a study aid by computer artists, graphic designers, photographers or art students because it remove any distractions from photo and guide the viewers focus to the essence of the image.
The natural segmentation process is very similar to the way an artist simplifies a scene when painting.
An artist can use Segmentix as their sketch book to develop ideas that already look paintery and give a high impression of how the final art will look like. They can also use it directly as a background trace layer from which the computer art will be made.
A photographer can use Segmentix to judge the artistic quality of their photography and train their photographic vision. Our brain gets distracted by the high amount of fine texture surfaces on photos and it is often not being able to "see forrest for the trees". In other words we may be drawn towards the textures and colors and unable to correctly judge the essence of what makes great image.
And there is also interesting "side-effect": Any traces of noise, no matter how strong, will be eliminated.
If you later vectorize or trace photos on your computer, you will find that images prepared with Segmentix makes the job a child's play.
It takes less than a minute and you can watch it to work, you can pinch zoom closer and move around the image during the process to see how it is changing into its simplified form.
Note: the resolution may appear lower but this is a computer generated image with absence of any photo noise which ultimately works same as a photo of higher resolution. However in next update we will increase the resolution (or give option to switch to higher rez). Any increase of resolution unfortunately does increase the processing time.
Tip 1: Good for portraits, still life and everything else. You can use even really noisy photos in bad conditions - it will completely hide and cover up any traces of photographic noise.
Tip 2: A good composition and interesting light goes a long way for a photo to have painterly qualities.
Really like the app, but...
Device info: iPhone 5, iOS 7.1.1, AT&T, latest app version to date (6-8-14):
I really like the app, but, as stated in the app description, "the output resolution is going to be raised in the next update" - this app has never had one single update to it? I don't know why devs make apps, and then don't update them, it seems as if they've been abandoned when this happens? I don't know if that's the case with this app, but I'd REALLY like to see a higher resolution?
I'm not one to post many photos on social sharing sites. I'm still old-fashioned and like to print them for photo albums, but when the resolution is too low, even though they look great on your screen, they print out very pixelated and aren't very album-worthy or nice to look at.
I don't mind the processing time taking a bit longer, I know some people do, and I've seen their complaints in other reviews, but I think people now expect such an instant gratification that they aren't willing to wait just a few extra minutes to get BETTER. Life has sped up so exponentially, since I was a kid, and only seems to be getting faster and faster, but I think life is better slowed down and enjoyed - there's too much to miss when you're busy being busy! Lol!
Thank you, dev, for taking this into consideration for your next update! I hope to see it soon!
Interesting app, low resolution
I like the effect of this app, but the low resolution spoils it. It would also be nice to be able to turn off the sound effects.
Note: I just read the developers explanation of the low resolution, and I understand that there is a real technical reason for the lower resolution --- that there is a lot of processing going on behind the scenes. Because this developer tends to release apps with full res support, I will give this app one more star.
Really useful app for painting images
This is a funny app complete with music and a kind if funhouse interface. I like the way it simplifies detail that I can draw back into. Low res output can be pumped up if you're blending with a high red version of the same image but it would be great not to have to do that to get high res output ... Listening?
