Great Beginning, But Needs a Few Additions

The app works exactly as it should like on the mobile version. I had a problem with the app at first, as it wouldn’t do anything whatsoever, it didn’t listen and didn’t send any info to its servers. Then all of a sudden, 2 days later it just starts working, and so far it hasn’t shown me any problems. There are a few things that would be nice to have in this app though. It would be great if you could open up a list of all the songs that shazam recognized, instead of just scrolling through the list in the top menu bar. It would be great if that list also had a search function, and maybe have something concerning the date that Shazam recognized the song, so songs would be easier to find. You should also be able to delete songs from that list, to remove ones that you already found or don’t want to have cluttering things up. Also as other people have said, there should be an option to set a time for when it should shut off, and in general the app should have many more options in setting about its listening. All in all, good app, but needs many additions and bug fixes.

Amazingly Helps Discover New Music Around You, On TV, and From Places You Didn’t Expect

I love how this app runs continuously. I switch back and forth constantly on my TV between viewing my Mac and simply watching TV. This app, via the microphone on the Mac, helps me discover music played in commercials and etc. It even has the ability to determine what commercial was playing and what television program is currently airing. I was blown away with how helpful the mobile app was toward helping me find the name of songs I have had listed as “Unknown”. The Mac app works wonders. "It just works!”

I give it a five-star rating; however, I think it could still be improved. Because it runs continuously, I tend to run into the case of looking up again songs that I have already searched for on the Internet. The improvement of which I would like to see is the ability to clear the scan list.

Finally, I am not sure for what the 4-hour timer is used. Is it the scan time allotted per running of the app?

Does Not Work

I held off writing a review until I gave Shazam support ample time to respond to me directly to see if the app could be salvaged, but after two weeks of back-and-forth (they go days between responding to emails) I’ve decided to leave my thoughts.

The application does not work. It sits in the menu bar and says its running, but it does not recognize music on the computer or from an outside source. Shazam support asked me to test my internal microphone and that works just fine. I mentioned to them that I tested the microphone with both Facetime and Skype and had no issues. They responded by asking me to shut down the computer because Skype may have been interfering with Shazam’s ability to use the microphone. Nevermind that I had not used Skype for more than a year prior to this test and that Shazam was not working before the test.

I’m running Shazam on a 2012 Macbook Air so I don’t belive it should be a case of older hardware, but support hasn’t responded since last week so I’m giving up. I would like to say something positive about the app and the only thing I can think to say is that because it sits in the menu bar it’s out of the way. Still doesn't work though. One star.
