What's New in Version 1.1.2
Push notifications update.
I love the fact that you can download a piece of sheet music and actually have the app play the music, change the tempo, turn on or off the left or right hand (for piano) or voice line, and even visually transpose the sheet music. And you can browse and sample the sheet music by actually playing and hearing the first page from the store. It's awesome. I've been dreaming of an app like this for years. No longer do I have to buy a piece of sheet music and also download the song so I can hear the piano parts - now it's all in one place. Makes it so much easier to pickup and play new music!
If I had one complaint (more as a suggestion for improvement) is that when playing a score, you have to manually navigate back and forth to the coda. If the sheet music is digital, why can't it just re-write out the repeated sections of music instead of having to go back and forth manually? Or, at least give you a button to go back to the correct page instead of having to remember what page number the coda was on. That's the only reason why I did not give it 5 stars.
Another minor nuance is that when previewing the music, you return to the app library page instead of back to the page you were at the store - this should return you to where you were in the store so you can buy or keep shopping. Right now, after you preview, you then have to click the button at the bottom to return to the store.
Page 2 doesn't show up about a third of the time
For most of the music I have, page 2 mysteriously will go blank from time to time. If I skip forward to page 3 and then come back to page 2, it will usually redraw itself correctly, but this is incredibly annoying, not to mention disruptive to the playing of the music. One other review noted a similar problem last year, so I assume the developers are either unaware of this problem, or haven't been able to reproduce it. I myself can't figure out the pattern - the blank page 2 doesn't occur when you first view a song - I usually notice it only after I've been reading a song for a while to play on my piano. I'll get to the end, flip back to page one and then go to page 2 and suddenly it's blank whereas it had been fine a few minutes earlier. However, I don't know any deterministic way to reproduce this problem. Nonetheless, it occurs often enough that for really important songs, I will print them to a printer, then scan them back into a PDF that I can view in another app, just to make sure I don't get blank page 2s.
Well, you can use it
This application was last updated over a year ago and it shows that it's not really being developed. It's such a shame as it could be so good with bug fixes and small enhancements. I often lose pages, that is they just go blank. Much fiddling required to get them to show. It crashes often. The pages turn really slow, etc. Then small enhancements like I've seen on other sheet viewers where you can zoom the music so it just takes the inch of white space around away and the score fills the entire screen. For us older types it makes all the difference. I know you can "pinch" but when you turn the page etc. You can see better in landscape mode but then you can't turn pages. The interface in general is not what you would expect from an iPad application. I've got 40 sheets that I bought in their DOT com website that apparently can't be downloaded because you have to buy them in the DOT us website. I don't even mind paying again but I might just wait to see if another company is going to develop a better app.
