Step away from clear notions of good and evil, right and wrong. There are demons in the world, but whether they are ally or enemy depends on where you stand and what you do. In Tokyo 199X, a mysterious murder leads to the emergence of demons and an escalating global conflict with the rise of a charismatic rebel leader in possession of a demon army, and external forces that wish to crush such threats with extreme measures. You, the protagonist, have an unusual ability enabled by a computer program that lets you communicate with and recruit demons to your side. As you collect demons, the program will allow you to store, summon, and fuse them to create the right team to negotiate the ever-changing balance of powers, and fight for the kind of world you ultimately wish to live in.
ATLUS’ revolutionary RPG series, Shin Megami Tensei, began on the Super Nintendo in 1992, and has gone on to sell millions of copies worldwide. It has further given rise to other hit RPG titles, including Persona, Devil Summoner, and Devil Survivor. Previously available only in Japan, this, the very first Shin Megami Tensei game, is available in English for the first time ever.

A Legendary RPG Comes to America at Last!
Shin Megami Tensei has become my favorite RPG series of all time. Every release by ATLUS has been incredible, and I am now a huge fan of almost every game they publish. However I never thought that the the Super Famicom classic would ever recieve an official release in the US, and yet, here we have a fantastic port of the Game Boy Advance version. The controls are fantastic, and I find that playing the game with one hand in portrait mode is the optimal way to play. The gameplay screen is a bit small, but it does not affect the experience in any negative way. The music is great, and the battle theme is fun to listen to. The music was pulled from the Playstation version of the game, and while a couple of tracks are not quite as good as the Super Famicom version, the majority of tracks sound better in my opinion. The translation was also handled extremely well, and is definitely supperior to the fan translation that exsists. Overall, Shin Megami Tensei is easily worth the asking price, and I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys challenging RPGs and First Person dungeon crawlers.
SMT for the ages!
Having played the later games in the series, I was pretty excited when Atlus announced that they were rereleasing the game that started it all! Being able to play an official translation of the original game is a dream come true. Prior to the IOS release, this game did not have an official English version. They did such a good job with the English translation as well. Like the other reviewers said, this game is a first person dungeon crawler, but do not let that discourage you. You will get sucked into the story line. This game is so fantastic that it doesn't show its age like other titles from the same era. Tons of thought and planning went into ensuring a smooth experience, despite the difficulty of the game.
I highly recommend this game for RPG fans and for fans of classic games. It also has quite a few esoteric elements in it. Highly recommended for fans of the occult!
The A-Mode DDS is what I'm assuming to be a feature that was either present in the GBA version of the game (Since vision items were introduced in that one) or is a new feature to the iOS version of the game.
It's basically the equivalent of the Demon Compendium minus the ability to summon demons, any demons you've encounted in the game (Boss demons are included) will be present, when selecting the demon you can check it's stats, magic skills, race, and has the origin of the demon plus a brief description of it.
You can also view a vision item's backstory, when selecting the vision item a small scene will play that explains how the item came to be or the signifigance that the item holds to the story. It's not majorly important, as in you don't need to quit out of the game and view these items in order to keep up with the story's plot, but they're a nice bonus.
