Tagging a picture creates problems on Ancestry
I used to love this app. Then Ancestry bought it, and ruined it. At first, I was excited. It was going to be a direct link to uploading pictures to my Ancestry account. But then, the buggy nature others speak of, takes over. The most recent problem I discovered is pretty big. If I tag a person in a picture, when it uploads to Ancestry, it changes to a "gender unknown" field in the facts.
I used the 'contact support' link in Shoebox and received an auto-reply to send my request to Find a Grave. There is no place on Find a Grave that addresses Shoebox. Ancestry has made a mess of their convoluted buyouts. Don't use the app until they fix this issue. Ancestry itself has offered no fix other than telling me to go in and manually change all of the tagged people back to their correct gender. Why am I not currently a paid subscriber to Ancestry? This mess.
Great help for adding pics
I have been using shoebox for quite a while. It is so nice that I could take pictures with my phone to add to my Ancestry family tree. Because the pictures are also saved to my phone I can also download them to my computer and have a back up there. For a short time I did have trouble with not being able to tag people in the photos through the app. That has been fixed and I have not had any problems since then. The software also does a really good job of adjusting pictures that are not exactly flat or perfectly square when you take your pictures.
Over all good experience
I haven't run into all the problems others have mentioned. I've seen some quirky behavior at times, but I have had an overall good experience with the app so far.
A couple suggestions, I would love to see an iPad version come out, and it would be nice to have the names show on a list outside to picture instead of covering it. It has been hard to tag all the faces when there are a lot of family in the picture since the names of the already tagged cover the faces that have yet to be tagged.
