places wrong addresses
I'm giving it two stars because it was free and maybe down the road it could improve. However I will not be using this nor do I recommend this app for a couple of reasons the most important is it placed the wrong address (marked the wrong address) to the place I scouted. Not even on the same road looks like about a quarter mile to the east of where I was scouting. (a very popular spot) The whole purpose is to scout a location that you can return to at a later date - if the map's location marks are off then I could of just shot scouting pics with my camera. At a another location it could not " find the address" and there doesn't seem to be a way to manually set the mark therefore I couldn't even record that scouting location and up load the scouting pictures.
Finally a bit of internet ethics, I have spent the last week really looking in to making this app work for me and exploring it. I am a very experience photographer and pretty knowledgeable working with computers, apps, etc.. (however I'm not a programer) I find it extremely hard to believe anyone is honestly giving this app five stars. I don't believe customer reviews are where the company should be allowed to place false reviews to sell it's product. Down the road when this app improves I will now forever be skeptical because I truly doubt some of these glowing reviews.
You want this app, you NEED this app
ShootLocal is the ultimate app for finding interesting and unknown locations. I'm definitely no pro but still love whipping out the iPhone and tagging cool spots that photographers can use for work or play. Always exploring I use it to find interesting places around me that I otherwise would never know about. The sharing functionality is great and the dedicated web page that's created for each spot is a nice way to show others what I've stumbled across. This application will only get better as more users engage and share their favorite places. No other app gives users the power to open up the world like ShootLocal does, its the future of the industry and I'm excited to be using it in its infancy. Other photo and camera apps just let you manipulate and share. This facilitates creation, unique creation, something seriously lacking in society today. Get out there and share your perspective and let others check out your world, from your lens and theirs.
Frustrating, befuddling, and non-intuitive
I have tried for the last hour to figure out how to use the program to no avail. Although the program does do a good job of triangulating a user's current location, use of its primary feature (which is to discover good places to shoot) only seems to display locations which are located nearby somewhere you have already added pictures for. What I would like would be an app that I could use to research cool locations that I have never been to before. Another way of putting it is to say that you must first submit a series of photos and identify here each was taken. Once you have entered a picture and it's location, then you can search for other nearby locations submitted by other users. But if you haven't visited a location and therefore haven't added it to your list, there is no way to discover good spots in that location before you visit and add at least one picture of your own, or if there is a way to do so i have been unable to figure it out. I love the idea of the app, and greatly dislike it's implementation.
