Got this app after my DIL recommended it during my summer vacation. Looked do-able and even worked at the airport shops on layover. But after three different states I'm home now and glitches are still occurring that I had thought were just due to traveling. I am getting tired and annoyed by the "potholes" and "sorry...try back later" when I've gone to the minor trouble of hunting down an obscure item to scan. And, as others have mentioned, I'm not thrilled with the aspect of loss of privacy without having to turn settings off and on. It begins to feel like '1984' when I walk into a store days after a previous shopping trip and discover I have had all my settings turned on the entire time. Do they listen in? I have no idea but it makes me uneasy thinking about the possibility. I will probably keep the app for awhile and watch to see if they fix the glitches. Plus I need to figure a way to remember to turn the settings off when I'm not shopping. :)
To be clear, gift cards provided by this app are not "free"; they are compensation for participating in the app's market research! If you approach this app as the business transaction it is, then it sorely lacks consistency. Until more users make that distinction then the app will continue to be lacking.
I almost feel like this app pulls a bait-and-switch. At first it works great. But then it starts not picking up the signal in stores where it previously had no problems. The location aspect used to work fine until I started racking up kicks and cashing them in. I used to scan with no problem, then the scanner started making the app crash. Now I have to log in every time I open the app.
I understand there are limits but this feels like I'm being short changed for using the app effectively.
So I love the app. I've been a loyal user almost since inception. It's a great way to earn some free money, find good deals, and find shops around you. The only issues I have is the Location services. It's either on or off. It really needs to have a "While app is in Use" option so I don't have to sit in my car and turn on the location services each time. If you leave it on, it's a battery murderer.
Also, I think there should be some incentives to old users. My sister in law joined last year and got 10,000 kicks right off the bat. Where as I don't even have 7,500 yet.
Other than that it's worth the download.
