Awesome Secure Communication App
This app is an awesome way to communicate with your other contacts who also have the app. It is almost like having your own STE! Easy encrypted calls and texts without the need to exchange PKI certificates, like PGP does with email.
And for the guy that is concerned with allowing it to access your contacts, it uses that information to automatically look up your contacts and find the necessary information for every one of your contacts that has the app too. It then auto populates the contact list within the app for the people you can communicate with, and the type of method that will work with that person (text only or call/text). It is necessary for auto lookup and key exchange to allow the access to your contacts, and who cares if you let them for the capability and security offered by the app; like that guys contacts can be so secret. ;)
Requires total access to Contacts or must be force quit
This is actually quite comical.
This app requires access to Contacts for some reason.
No other app on my phone requires that privilege.
It will not function without that privilege.
Worse, if you don't grant that privilege it leaves you at a screen where you have no choice other than to force quit the app.
I have no idea why a third party "security" app requires access to every person I have contact with across every single organization I deal with.
I will never send that information to any app developer. Why would anyone ever do that?
If you care enough about your privacy to be looking at an encrypted messaging app, then giving the app developer access to all of your contacts is the worst idea in the world.
Note that this app also has the unique distinction of being the only app I've ever encountered on iPhone that would not function at all without special privilege.
I would expect that I would just manually enter the people I want encrypted messages with.
But no. Apparently they need all of my contacts all the time.
I'm hoping this was just a rushed development schedule who thought it would be faster to import from contacts than create crud screens for this in the app.
So hopefully this problem will go away in future releases.
As a result since I am literally completely unable to use the app and have to force quit it when I try, this gets the lowest possible rating.
Yay for basic privacy
My sweetie wanted me to use this app as we live in a rural area so using our web connection for messaging works better and he doesn't have an iPhone so I can't iMessage him. He's also a techie guy into encryption for multiple reasons.
It wasn't until I started using this that I realized just how sweet it feels to not have the govt spying on my conversations! I don't have anything to hide so I figured I didn't care so much knowing that every single electronic communication of mine is monitored... But I was pleasantly surprised to discover this thrill of appreciation upon first using this app! ...omg! No spybots are reading my words! I get to have my basic privacy back :) This is a delicious human right that I am deeply appreciating having back!!
