Description
Privacy is possible, Signal makes it easy.
Using Signal, you can communicate instantly while avoiding SMS fees, create groups so that you can chat in real time with all your friends at once, and share media all with complete privacy. The server never has access to any of your communication and never stores any of your data.
• Say Anything - Signal uses an advanced end to end encryption protocol that provides privacy for every message every time.
• Open Source - Signal is Free and Open Source, enabling anyone to verify its security by auditing the code. Signal is the only private messenger that uses open source peer-reviewed cryptographic protocols to keep your messages safe.
• Be Yourself - Signal uses your existing phone number and address book. There are no separate logins, usernames, passwords, or PINs to manage or lose.
• Group Chat - Signal allows you to create encrypted groups so you can have private conversations with all your friends at once. Not only are the messages encrypted, but the Signal server never has access to any group metadata such as the membership list, group title, or group icon.
• Fast - The Signal protocol is designed to operate in the most constrained environment possible. Using Signal, messages are instantly delivered to friends.
• Speak Freely - Make crystal-clear phone calls to people who live across town, or across the ocean, with no long-distance charges.

Please add bookmark feature!
I am a firm believer in my right to privacy and as such, I'm a huge fan of this app. In my attempt to transition to Signal as my primary messenger, I have spread the news. I have even been successful in transitioning my main group chats w/friends and family to Signal from whatsapp (some 20+ users). However without the chat bookmark feature, I'm losing the battle and everyone wants to return to whatsapp. Since we have many group chat members with ongoing conversations, it's very inconvenient for everyone to have to scroll up to find where he/she last left off. If this auto bookmark feature could be added to automatically save where a user last left off, it would greatly improve the user interface.
Also, if names could be inserted above each message (rather than below), this would also improve ease of use. But this is far less of a priority. Just giving some feedback.
Regardless of the above, I'm sticking with Signal because privacy is more important to me than ease of use. However, the app is rendered useless if none of my contacts are on it. I feel that the aforementioned tweaks would go a long way toward converting whatsapp users.
Fantastic for straightforward private communication
Signal uses modern encryption to keep privacy users protected, but simultaneously does this while providing a fantastically streamlined and simple app UI.
The important issue of communications privacy is one that people should care about, but a lot of encryption systems are difficult for everyday users. Signal is the kind of app you can send to any friends or relatives no matter their tech level, and you can be confident they'll be able to use it without special explanations.
I rarely write reviews for apps, but Signal is outstanding and deserves the praise.
Signal is Awesome
Signal is based on the same encryption protocol as what drives today's whatsapp and others. On top of it, Signal doesn't store much metadata at all. Just your phone number and your last active date. Not whom you call, text et cetera.
On top of it, on voice calls it comes up with neat names for each call.
The quality is great. The other thing is it doesn't give away much about the other person typing and such. If you have come to rely on those things, and want to experience be older pace of life, Signal is great also.
