What's New in Version 1.0.1
GAME UPDATE NOW AVAILABLE – Improvements, additions, and optimizations include RETINA DISPLAY SUPPORT for a maximized visual experience on iPhone® 4 and iPod touch® (4th generation).
Okay, now maybe I haven't used the game enough, but in the amount of time I've used this, it seems to be a very well done port of the PC game. I've not had it crash, glitch run out of water or trash capabilities. The gameplay is very closely related to SC3000, with bits of Sim City4 thrown in. I much prefer SC3000 to SC4 so this is a very good thing. The controls are well done and I like the touch interface. It's actually much better than using a mouse I think.
The couple of things I find annoying and wish I had control over are ability to alter the terrain. Having mountains would add variety to the game, however, I suppose the limited terrain controls are there for processing a building simplicity. (although the iPhone hardware is still more than what PCs had when this fame debuted) The other thing I dislike and almost makes the game unplayable, is the iPhone's small screen. That is not a fault of the game, so I will not fault it for that. On an iPad, the game would certainly be as enjoyable or more so than the PC version especially with the touch control.
I give this game 4 stars for its well done port to the iOS platform. Minus a star for the missing elements of the PC version. The iOS version should have included, not eliminated them. The hardware of all but the oldest iOS devices can certainly support the game engine's hardware requirements.
I have this on my desktop and am surprised they were able to port it to iPhone, and for 99 cents. Many are complaining about difficult controls but veteran sim city users should not have an issue. Yes, the screen is small but it is not impossible to accomplish things. They did a good job updating things that would otherwise be difficult on an iPhone. For example, laying water lines adds directional controls which allow you to expand than move a pipe. Now, I'm sure I'll get used to these features and miss them when playing on the desktop. The advisors don't seem as obnoxious or insulting. This was a bargain for such a popular game. The only thing I don't like is the lack of a cheat command line. I haven't done a lot of poking around for it but I am sure it is not present. I hope I'm wrong because that is a great feature adding more fun to this game
Way too many issues
This game should have no problem running on my iPod, but it does. This app crashes more than 10 drunk teenagers in a car. It has some odd and inexplicable crashing problem whenever menus are used. Be careful of using the ticker to get info about your city, because this thing stutters and dies like it had a heart attack. EA's programmers have successfully brought the fear of stepping on a landmine to simcity, no, I'm not talking about disasters or anything like that, I'm talking about any button on the screen. You can never be sure what is going to happen when you click anything, it could work, or more likely you could end up looking at your home screen and wishing you saved your work. I'm not sure if I have enjoyed the little time I've put into this app, or if I am just more frustrated with it's bugs to notice it's features. It is kind of like trying to fish in a puddle: you may have enjoyed it for a brief instant, but the obvious problems with it make it totally worthless and aggravating.
