What's New in Version 2.5.0
Version 2.5 brings a handful of updates unified by a good-hearted theme: “incremental changes that help you feel more confident with your money.” Hooray for increments!
Specifically these increments:
- If you spend more than your Safe-to-Spend balance, a helpful new banner will let you know what’s up.
- We completely rebuilt the Payments feature. One happy result: you can see an accurate timeline of all your scheduled payments, both online and by check.
- If you ever need to change the address on your account, you can send us a request through the app.
- If your Simple card has an EMV chip in real life, the card image in the app will have one too.
Excellent Modern Bank
I've been a Simple customer for over a year now, and I love this bank! Every time I've had a question I just sent customer service a message through the app and usually within 24 hours I get a very polite, down to earth response. The one time I needed to make a phone call I had a similar experience - just "normal" people and none of the weird mess you sometimes get calling support for other companies.
The debit card looks really slick and nice. I've received several compliments from cashiers. The app also works great and I enjoy the goals features. While I sometimes wish you earned more interest I understand that's the trade off for having NO bank fees and I think it's worth it after having been slapped with a few stupid fees at my other bank.
I hope Simple continues to grow, and as they add more features and banking products (like checking accounts) I'll be even closer to making them my ONLY bank.
Great App now better!
At first I was a little anxious. Took forever to get my invite approved. Took forever for my first few deposit checks to post. But once my direct deposit started posting and I started using "Goals" to set aside money for bills, etc., it's been smooth sailing.
For once I have an accurate picture of my finances to the penny. Apple pay with the "Simple" debit card has worked flawlessly. This is truly the future. The app is top notch in both design and performance. Just give it time for your first transactions to post, as extra time is required if your account is less than 30 days old. It's in the TOS. Easily 5 stars!
Update: They've added a feature that many people were requesting. That's the ability to show you how far you've over spent on your Safe to Spend, i.e., borrowing from your Goals. You'll find it under the Goals tab. Great app is now better!
You'll regret it
If you are considering using this service be prepared to be annoyed. Don't make the same mistake I did. Like most banks honesty isn't their thing. When you transfer money to your account from a bank account, a reasonable amount of time would be 2 days max. I transferred money over the weekend, it's the end of the following week and I still don't have my money. Their customer service claims it takes 3 days to transfer... So starting on Monday the first business day after I transferred funds I would expect the 3rd day to be Wednesday. It's not. At Simple the 3rd day would be Thursday. 3 days to them is actually closer to 5 because they don't start counting until the day after, and then you will be lucky if you get your money by the end of the 4th day.
I got this card to help me budget and plan, and to keep my banks debit card out of the hands of thieves (there's been a lot of compromised accounts lately) I should have just stuck to carrying cash. At least I would have my money when I asked for it.
