Now I'm torn between this and Evernote

As a happy Evernote user for nearly two years, my discovery of Simplenote has caused a great disturbance in the Force. As the name implies, Simplenote is just that: simple. Also: powerful, robust, reliable, dependable. Simplenote's true strength is that as soon as you add a note, or add content to an existing note, on one device, it instantly and transparently syncs with all your other devices running Simplenote (or Notational Velocity, on my Macs). Wow. This is the solution to my quest to quickly and easily access and update my notes from any device: iPhone, iPad, Mac, with no fuss or stress.

I have loved Evernote, which has far more and far greater features: tables, image import, audio notes, OCR, etc. But Evernote has failed me several times in one key area: I have lost data in it. I write notes on my iPad, and sometimes they fail to sync without warning. When I return to the note, my last 10-15 minutes of work is gone. Small, but inexcusable. Simplenote doesn't do half of what Evernote does. But what it does do, it does, very very well. It allows you to write notes, and sync. Well done!

Essential App

Simple Note is an essential part of my daily work flow. It is excellent because it is, well, simple. It does one thing well, and that is note-taking. I have been using it on my iPhone and iPad for several years now to write notes and sync with Notational Velocity on my Mac. Having "always present" notes is indispensable to me as an academic. I take notes while I read, while I write, while I talk to people, and while I listen to lectures. I keep an offline archive of SimpleNotes by storing them as rtf files I can easily upload to other writing tools like Scrivener, Notability, Pages, and once in a while Word. Searching is quick and useful and the tagging feature gives me a simple way to classify and sort notes according to project in a non-intrusive, distraction-free way. In every situation, having a really clean, simple note-taking app that doesn't distract me with tools that aren't about the content is important. I also use other tools for taking notes that do different things well, like Notability for integrating drawing with text, but for just plain notes, nothing beats SimpleNote.

The Definitive note taking app

SimpleNote is an essential app for my daily life. It does what it needs to do extremely well: take down notes and sync seamlessly to all my devices. There is no unneeded cruft here. It's the Unix philosophy at its finest: Take notes and give them tags.

Apps such as Evernote are way too bloated and overkill for most day-to-day notes. SimpleNote just works, and it works well. Don't expect it to do anything other than what it does. I've always been able to rely on it offline and online. I've never lost data or notes. It has the functionality that iOS has only recently added to its native Notes app. (At least that's what someone using the native Notes app told me) Use the real deal here.
Pro tip: try to keep your tags under 8-10 otherwise you'll be searching for everything which defeats the purpose of this app in my opinion. Use SimpleNote every day like I do and you'll love it soon enough too. Highly recommended!
