Simplenote is an easy way to keep notes, lists, ideas and more. Your notes stay in sync with all your devices for free.
The Simplenote experience is all about speed and efficiency. Open it, write some thoughts, and you're done. As your collection of notes grows, you can search them instantly and keep them organized with tags and pins. You can also share notes and publish them for other people.
The best way to learn about Simplenote is to try it. You'll be asked to create an account. This allows your notes to be backed up online and synchronized automatically.
After you sign up, try creating some notes! Then go to simplenote.com to download Simplenote for your other devices.

I love this app, BUT—
With the release of Bear, Simplenote is starting to get outranked. The only thing that keeps Bear from taking the cake is that you can’t sync between devices unless you subscribe to their pro service. Even so, I find myself using Simplenote less and less. Literally if Simplenote would just add bold, italics, and underline options (and perhaps better bulleted options) I would be content with Simplenote forever and ever. I love the simplicity and minimalism of Simplenote and the tag system works beautifully, but just a little bit of structure (per request above) would go a long way and wouldn’t compromise those values. I hope Simplenote considers making these additions in the near future to stay competitive and remain the obvious choice for recording thoughts off the cuff.
Search still broken in Jan 2017 update
Good news: Simplenote is not dead. Both the macOS and iOS versions got an update today.
Bad news: Search is stil broken in the macOS version. It’s been broken since launch.
Create a note like “the small brown fox”.
Now search your note for “small fox”. On the web and iOS you’ll find the note. On macOS you won’t.
It will be hard to fix this. Whowever wrote the original macOS app was either very short of time or didn’t understand how to do search.
If you can live without effective search for a while in the Mac app then this is otherwise an excellent app. Despite this longstanding bug I use the Mac app several times a day. If I can’t find something I launch the web UI and search there.
