The app does it's main job, streaming high quality music content to my AirPort Extreme, very well. Listening to my favorite music played through my stereo receiver is a wonderful experience. But having so much control over one's music, one would think that the app would be able to provide a much better user interface. I have listed a few of my suggestions that would improve the experience for many users of the app.
Firstly, there should be a list of recently played songs for each station. This list should be available whether or not someone was listening to the station. For example: I am currently listening to octane but I'd like to see the last 10 or 15 songs played on bpm. Secondly, there needs to be a better system for marking favorite songs. I want to be able to create a list of favorite songs that I can view at any time within the app. I don't want to be redirected to the iTunes Store so I can buy the song. I do not use iTunes so putting music in my wish list there, is pointless. And this list should be all encompassing: favorite songs from all channels complied on one list. Thirdly, I use both my iPad and iPhone for streaming from the app. I was not impressed to find out that I had to add my favorite channels twice; as opposed to having a sync feature.
Hopefully some of these ideas will be taken into consideration!
After 2 years, this is my first review...
I'm a very easily pleasable person but this is rediculous...
The only reason I pay for satellite radio is because my family and I often take long commutes to visit family and streaming audio is unable to keep up in no Internet zones.
This "satellite radio" app is identical any other streaming radio service (as they're all using the same technology and hardware) on the iPhone except, wait a minute, we get to pay! Actually, we get to pay MORE for a service we already have! And not just a modest one time .99 cent or $2 fee, an additional 40 bux a year. It's bad enough that I pay 13 bux a month for ONE radio in ONE car. The best part is, XM and serious aren't competitors anymore! Was anyone else expecting a price drop when each radio service dropped half their channels to combine services?
XM/serious, please tell us what about your product is worth these insulting fees...
Why don't you wake up and realize that our country is literally just a few years (or less) away from being blanketed with wi-fi, wi-max, hi-fi, etc.. "Satellite" radio is a DYING market and this is the most CRUCIAL time to please your customers...
The one good thing I will say about satellite radio is the fact that because you pay (hefty) fees every month, you don't have to hear annoying commercials and ads...
Wait, yes you do. FAIL.
Still Needs Work
I'm really happy that SiriusXM brought on demand to the iOS app, but it's not without problems. It seems to randomly forget where you were listening to an on demand or downloaded episode and start back up at the beginning. Sometimes I can pick up my phone days later and pick up on a show where I left off, sometimes it restarts after exiting the app and going back in a few minutes later.
I've also notice that if you download an episode and start playing it, the next time you exit and come back to the app, it may pick up where you left of listening, but instead of playing the downloaded episode, it streams it on demand. I used a lot more data last month that I normally do because of this. If you have a limited data plan, you might want to keep a close on on that.
Additionally, for whatever reason, recently I've had to completely remove the app from my phone and reinstall it just to get it to work. I will regularly get an error message that service is not available. However, I can log into my computer and stream Sirius without issue. The app seems to lose its mind quite often if you switch between Wi-Fi and cellular networks.
For a relatively expensive streaming service, one would hope they would take some of that money and make their app a little bit usable.
