Skala Preview is the fastest way to send pixel perfect, colour perfect design previews from your Mac to your iPhone or iPad.
Previewing your design in situ lets you test tap sizes, text sizes, colour, contrast and ergonomics, all at a time where changes can be easily made — during the design process. It closes the loop, meaning you can iterate faster to a better final design.
Please note: This app requires the free Skala View iOS app.
— Pixel Perfect —
Skala Preview sends lossless, colour accurate image previews to any iOS device. Previews are pixel perfect. Colours are identical to how the final app or website will look on the device.
— Zoom In —
Preview at precisely 100%. Zoom to exactly 200% to view a non-Retina iPhone design full screen on an iPhone 4 or 4S. Zooming in shows crisp pixels, not an interpolated, blurry mess.
— Portrait & Landscape —
Preview designs on an iPhone, iPod or iPad in portrait or landscape orientation, and on devices with Retina and non-Retina displays. If you’re creating an iOS app, we have it covered.
— Realtime Preview —
If you’re using Photoshop CS5 12.0.4 or newer, Skala Preview can preview your canvas as you edit. No saving, no keyboard shortcuts, just lossless previews in realtime.
It is the absolute fastest way to preview a design mock up on an iOS device.
— Send Files & Clipboard —
If you’re using Fireworks, Pixelmator, Acorn, another image editor or an older version of Photoshop, Skala Preview can send images via the clipboard or by dragging files to its dock icon or window.
The clipboard is sent automatically, so you don’t have to break your workflow to send — Just copy something and it’ll appear on your iOS device.
— Multiple Devices At Once —
Send to as many iOS devices as you’d like. It’s even possible to view different colour blindness testing, orientation or zoom level on multiple devices at once.
— Colour Blindness Testing —
Ensure your design can be used by those with protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia or complete colour blindness.
What's New in Version 1.6
- Improved icon and interface.
- Fixed bugs.
Photoshop. Remote. Connections.
What else do I need to say? No aligning a box and making sure your file is scaled to just the right size to see your preview. This supports Photoshop Remote Connections, making it so that you can skip around to different windows, work at different scales, show grids and guidelines, or basically do whatever you want and get the perfect preview on your device. Fantastic work.
Bogs Photoshop, super slow to update screens on iPad
The app works ok, but from time to time (more often than sometimes) the app makes Photoshop ignore some commands, gets slow and it gets SUPER slow after a while for updating the changes made to Photoshop into the iPad. I have excellent wifi and internet connection, so that’s not the problem.
The only way to get it back working is to quit the app and restart it, which is very annoyng. If those bugs get fixed, this will be a killer app for designers.
Bogs Photoshop down
I love the idea but when I have Skala running everything in Photoshop takes forever to work. Even using hotkeys to switch between tools doesn’t usually work the first few times I hit the key. Often times the image on my iPad or iPhone doesn’t update either. I’ll see an old version or some other screen I already closed like the app is stuck. I have to close it on my computer and re-run it.
It’s unfortunate but I’m going to be looking for another app that doesn’t get in my way.
