Skedaddle is the ultimate tool for hiding files on your mac. Due to its innovative interface, hiding files and folders is now easier than ever before.
Skedaddle will create a hideout on your desktop. It can be opened with the aid of a shortcut chosen by yourself allowing you to drag files and folders inside of it. Shall you desire to keep intruders out, a password can be set.
The covert is integrated in your desktop and a secret door will open whenever your shortcut is used. Open Sesame! As soon as the door is closed again it is unapparent where your private files are; let alone that you utilize a tool.
Apart from the option to set a password, the position of your hideout can be customized.
Many of the applications available at present that are meant to hide files on your mac take advantage of an easy to see through mechanism. All they do is setting a dot in the filename's front because the finder does not show these. Nowadays external applications are able to seek and uncover these files with ease.
That is why Skedaddle has been created the way it is! We developed an own and absolutely new technique to hide your file in order to protect your files from undesired glances.
Naturally, we will keep implementing new features to ensure your contentment.
We submitted already update 1.1 , which should be available very soon with a bunch of handy features, such as a window mode and secret notes.
I HATE DESKTOP CLUTTER
I am a big fan of a clean and clear desktop. I can't stand working on a computer that has a ton of visable clutter. However, I understand there is sometimes a "need" to keep files at close hand for easy access. That being said, I can't help but cringe every time I place a file on my desktop. In comes Skedaddle - exits desktop clutter/desktop storage problem. The app does just what it is supposed to do. It's clean, smooth and very low profile which is great. The added password protection is wonderful. I don't let many people near my computer, but it is nice that prying eyes (in school & at home) don't see files like my P90X worksheets on my desktop and start asking me about working out or the title of research papers I'm working on and start stealing my ideas… And, my 13yr old niece can play angry birds on my computer now and I don't have to worry about her seeing something on my desktop that maybe she shouldn't…
Great app. Fair price.
I would love to see the option for encryption (and would pay extra for it - in app purchase maybe) and would like to be able to open files from within the "hide-hole" but these are not deal breakers.
I’ve had this app for 3(?)ish years now and it is amazing. I’ve used it without issue for this entire time, and today I found a new feature that made me want to leave a review. When importing my private files (pictures, movies, whatever) to my computer from my phone/anywhere else, I would always make a folder on the desktop, import the files, and then move the file into skedaddle. Today I accidentally was copying pictures from Image Capture to a folder that was already in my skedaddle hideout, and it worked perfectly. It allowed me to import directly to the file inside skedaddle because I had the “address” to it, but then the files did not show in finder/spotlight because they were in skedaddle.
This app is simple and awesome, if you have anything…sensitive you’d rather keep away from prying eyes its definitely the best choice.
The only setback to this app is that you cannot open them while hidden because they are simply zipped. However, people have complained that the files can still be found in spotlight/finder, however I have not found this to be true at all. They are perfectly hidden for me. However, I am sure there are programs that will easily reveal my files, but to the occasional snooper these files are as well as buried. Good Job. P.S. For true hackers who want it inaccessible, encrypt it or something. Lol
By the way, I recalled one extra issue, Skedaddle would not allow me to set a keyboard shortcut with more than one key. I had to pick one key to use. ??
