The Skeptic Magazine App comes with a free, 44-page Preview Issue.
Skeptic magazine examines extraordinary claims, revolutionary ideas, promotes critical thinking, and serves as an educational tool for those seeking a sound scientific viewpoint. Each issue examines a specific theme and explores various social, scientific, and paranormal controversies. We investigate claims of the paranormal, pseudoscience, fringe groups, cults and claims between: science, pseudoscience, junk science, voodoo science, pathological science, bad science, non science and plain old nonsense. Our contributors are top experts in their fields—leading scientists, scholars, and investigative journalists. The magazine has been called “stimulating and provocative" by Carl Sagan, “clearly superior…gutsy” by Edward O. Wilson, and “the best journal in the field” by Stephen Jay Gould. Our editor-in-chief, Dr. Michael Shermer, has been called the most prominent skeptic in America, and his monthly column in Scientific American, and his numerous books and media appearances have made Skeptic a respected voice in academia. Included in each issue of Skeptic is Junior Skeptic magazine. While written for younger readers, it provides an outstanding summary of classical paranormal topics, and is one of the favorite parts of the magazine for adults as well. Its editor, Daniel Loxton, recently won Canada’s prestigious Best Science Book Award for Young Readers.

A necessary evil
It's amazing that something like this is even necessary, and it is very much so as this country seems to be devolving into the Dark Ages. How can we have grown so much in the last two thousand years and now seem to be going back to many of the values and superstitions humanity overcame. Science is being devalued, an elite 1 percent of rich people are ruling and the middle class is shrinking, and religion that had evolved more into charitable organizations are now returning to authoritarian attacks on morals and taking over politics.
Skeptic Magazine is the antidote for all of that fighting the disease and blight of ignorance and providing a determined resistance to the realities of vaccination deniers, human global warming deniers, charlatans and hucksters, and so much more.
I had stacks of Skeptics going back years but now with their availability with a simple App I've replaced the stacks with a subscription and back issues on an iPad. I can now take my library with me wherever I go. Evolution is a good thing. Devolution is stupid.
I have subscribed to two issues so far and I enjoyed the topics and articles. I think there should be more information about each author so I can vet them myself. I'd also recommend that there be more 'skeptical of the skeptic' articles to read more diverse viewpoints; rebuttal arguments would give the complex topics so much more life. It would also be interesting to open comment sections, though I can understand why there aren't any now. Overall, good magazine and the app works well enough for me.
My only complaint, and why it gets 4 stars is that I would like to see more articles per quarter. I understand, however, not wanting to dilute the quality and to be accurate with sourcing and bibliographic information. I highly recommend this for anyone who values reason first and foremost.
