way too slow

why nickname??

I model extensively in Sketchup on my Mac. I use the viewer to show the models to clients, in additon to showing them on the Mac. Sketchup veiwer is very "jerky" in motion on my iPad Air 2 and crashes often. When opening a file, a pop up always appears about the file size being "pretty big". And, yes, at >100 megs they are. But, the viewer should handle it.

Thinking that maybe my old iPad was not up to the task of manipulating my models, I just purchased the new 10.5 iPad Pro. I had hoped that my experience would be different, but the Sketchup viewer app doesn't work much better on the new iPad. So, I'm forced to conclude that the app itself is poorly written (as, I'm beginning to believe, Sketchup itself is). Kubity, which offers similar capability but not everything I'd like to use SU Viewer for, works fine on this and my older iPad.

Trimble needs to get their act together on this. They have a platform that has amazing potential, but falls far far short of that potential.

Better than nothing barely.

They added dimensions. That is a help. But it is impossible to use this app without constantly being annoyed. It uses one or two multitouch gestures but they don't work the standard way. There are certain angles you just can't get to. It has biases about orientation you can't fight. The drop box interface barely works. You can't get a list of files but if you switch to Dropbox app and find the file name there you can usually get this app to find it. It is as if they payed someone else to write this on a fixed price contract and the contractor delivered the absolute minimum possible to meet the contract and now they are gone. The initial version was basically useless but they eventually did one upgrade. Don't expect new features. Within limitations you can view SketchUp files on an iOS device. It is slightly better than just sharing screen captures from the desktop app. Like I said better than nothing.

Really works!

I use SketchUp Viewer to show 3D models to clients in my residential and kitchen design business. Using Dropbox, I can send files to clients to view on their own devices. People love being able to see and navigate through their not yet remodeled (or not yet constructed) home in three dimensions! Saved scenes are easy to scroll through and you can also hide and unhide layers.

I find SketchUp Viewer to be fairly intuitive on my iPad Pro, and send files to clients via Dropbox so they can view them on their own devices.

A few bits of advice to optimize the program:
• Don't upload bloated files. Purge unused components and materials before saving and sending to Dropbox. Older and less powerful devices will have trouble with large files.

• Use file names that are easy to search for.

• Pay attention to best practices: organize your content into layers, use scenes.

• And one item that initially gave me problems: The tape measure works well but I would get "stuck" in that tool. You can "escape" by going to the Orbit tool.

And one more thing: This is not SketchUp Make or SketchUp Pro, it's SketchUp VIEWER. This app is intended for viewing SketchUp models, not creating them.

Great App, very pleased with it!
