From food to shampoo – we are exposed to chemicals every second, yet we know very little about them. To navigate this complicated world and make safer choices, EWG combined two of our most popular resources to form our Healthy Living App. Now, the product health and safety ratings for over 200,000 food and cosmetics products are simply one click away.

Get to Know: EWG’s Skin Deep
Have you ever counted how many cosmetics or personal care products you use in a day? Chances are it's about 10. Through those 10 products you expose yourself to more than 126 ingredients a day. Most people use these products without a second thought, believing that the government must certainly be policing the safety of the mixtures in these myriad containers. But it doesn’t.
That’s why EWG created Skin Deep -- the world’s largest personal care products safety reference tool. It offers easy-to-navigate safety ratings for nearly 80,000 products.

Get to Know: EWG’s Food Scores
How do we know what we’re eating, really? There are so many claims on food labels these days, and ingredients no one can pronounce.
We created EWG’s Food Scores because we all want to know what we’re putting in our bodies. Food Scores rates more than 80,000 foods, 5,000 ingredients and 1,500 brands.
Many other food apps rate food products on nutrition, but EWG went two steps further. Products are rated based on three elements: nutrition, ingredient concerns and degree of processing. We combine these three scores into a single overall product score. We weigh nutrition most heavily, ingredient concerns next and processing relatively lightly. We rate all foods on a 1 to 10 scale, with the best foods scoring a 1 and the worst foods scoring a 10.

EWG ROCKS!! App is a little confusing
I absolutely love EWG!! I applaud them and am so grateful for the work they do!!
The only reason I have this app 4 stars instead of 5 is because there isn’t anything in the app that clearly explains their rating scale. They do explain what their EWG Certified seal means, so that’s great. And it is obvious that they’re using a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the best. However, a product may be a number 1 through 10, but will also say “Fair,” or “Limited” under the number rating. What does that mean???
If there were some way to ask for help through the app I would’ve done so there, but there’s not.
I would be happier if the app included household cleaners as most store retailers sell a lot of hazardous- not “clean” cleaning products. It shouldn’t be too much to ask to expand a little. Other than that- I find it difficult to understand a lot of the chemicals explanations.
I use another app for my beauty supplies only because it is a little more understandable and they break down every ingredient your looking at. Maybe I’m just having a difficult time navigating it but if
This app expands to include household products then I would probably use it a lot more to learn and understand better.
Missing a ton of popular products
We use nearly all name brand cleaning and cosmetics and I scanned everything we used and nothing showed up with the scanner. Then I manually entered the names of them and even tried just typing in the brand name and scrolling and it was not in the database. A lot more work has to be done before this is a useful app.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
