Sleep cycle is continuously rated as the best smart alarm clock and is the world’s most used intelligent alarm clock.
* Our patented technology monitors your sleep movements using sound or vibration analysis.
* Sleep Cycle then finds the optimal time to wake you up during a 30 minute window that ends at your set alarm time.
* Recommended placement: Near the bed or on the floor.
As you sleep you go through different phases, ranging from deep sleep to light sleep. The phase you are in when your alarm goes off is critical for how tired you will feel when you wake up.
Since you move differently in bed during the different phases, Sleep Cycle can use the microphone or accelerometer in your iPhone to monitor your movements and determine which sleep phase you are in.
Sleep Cycle wakes you when you are in your lightest sleep phase.

Bug fixes and improvements
Optimize Bedtime Routine with Sleep Notes
Use the Sleep Notes feature by making a pre set list of specific things you might do before bed. I think of anything I do within 2-3 hours before bedtime that might affect my sleep like caffeine, specific medications, working out, meditating, bright lights, big meals; poor sleep hygiene. The app will ask you every night before you turn on the analysis which ones you have done this night. Because every day is different and flexible, the freedom to do these different actions before bed still allows accurate tracking and analysis that can not be gotten by a handwritten sleep log (even under a meticulously controlled experiment). The analysis Trends of course get better over time with more data - making this experiment possibly endless.
Some actions may be shown to have negative effects on your sleep. Since the Sleep Quality % is competitively addicting, changing these habits and building healthier ones is easy. Don't forget it's personalized: caffeine puts me to sleep, some of my sleep meds actually hurt more than help (Docs love the science data), and partly cloudy skies have correlated to my best sleep.
Best alarm clock I've used
I currently do not have the premium version of the app however after using the free version for about a month now I'm going to upgrade. The app finds a perfect time between a window to wake you up and it wakes you up at your lightest sleep therefore you're not so groggy and annoyed. I actually am able to wake up and get out of bed at the time I want to get up and barely find myself hitting the snooze button anymore. The best part is that the alarm wakes you up very gently and is not startling but it eases you out of sleep which is a comforting feeling I hate waking up in a panic which I usually have to using any other alarm because I'll sleep through most alarms if they are not loud enough. The only thing I dislike is that my messages do not come through while the app is in use. If there was a way to select who's messages could come through while the app is in use that wound be more convenient however it is nice that texts are not waking me up throughout the night. Overall, I am super pleased with the app and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to try a new alarm. Thanks!!
Really improves my mornings
I tried this app on the recommendation of a student - turns out it was a great tip. It makes getting out of bed much easier and pleasanter because I'm not ripped abruptly out of deep sleep by a bell or tweet. This app plays gentle music at a time when you're skimming the surface of sleep and can easily be brought to consciousness. It's the equivalent of a gentle nudge from a friend instead of reveille. I like the recording of one's various sleep patterns and quality. The notes feature is pretty good also, though I wish for the ability to write my own freehand notes in addition to checking off a range of options. (You can edit the options but still this is a little cumbersome.) However this is a minor thing. I use the app mostly for the pleasant waking but the trends function, which shows you how different things affect your sleep, is interesting to look at as well. And I do like the daily report on the quality of your sleep. I can't quite suss out what is being measured but it does seem to correspond with my sense of being well rested or not!
