Sleep No More
By Konstantin Pavlikhin
Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
A tiny menu bar application, that prevents your Mac from sleeping for a set amount of time.
One of the first things I install
I’m a software developer and sometimes I can’t afford to let my computer go to sleep during a long test or something. SNM is the app I use for that, and it’s been reliable for over 2 years. I also use it to keep my Plex server from falling asleep during climatic movie scenes like it is wont to do. No more!
The app does not work as advertised
I've had at least 3 instances where the application fails to keep the computer awake. In all instances I configured iMovie to generate a movie which it stated would take 1 hour. I had configured the time duration to stay awake for 2 hours just to be safe.
I left the macbook pro plugged into the power cord to more than 4 hours. After returning to my macBook, I discovered the laptop had definitely gone to sleep and iMovie still reported 1 hour remaining. I looked at the meter for the sleep no more app & it showed 2 hours.
I was shocked & thought that I misconfigured something. So I repeated the test 2 more times as sure enough I had the same results.
I'm not sure if it's a conflict with iMovie, but it's a repeatable issue.
Doesn’t do what I hoped it would.
I needed an app to keep my Macbook Pro awake when the lid is shut on battery power. I need to stay connected to Wi-Fi when I move from place to place. This app does not do that.
The compter doesn’t sleep, but it doesn’t keep my Wi-Fi connected either.
