Nice alternative

I am a very active 63 year young male. I have always been an early riser after 20 years in the military and 20+ years in the corporate world. Falling asleep has never been a problem but waking up at 4 to 5:30 every morning has always left me sluggish. With this app I am rediscovering my sleep cycles and am pleased that this allows me to wake up in a band of time rather than a specific time. I am waking up more energized because I am on an up cycle. My morning 2 mile swim is more refreshing. I have also noticed that on the nights when I am in light sleep, I tend to take longer to fully wake up. I am currently in the process of monitoring when I go to sleep and how it affects my wake up energy. I will know more after a few months of monitoring sleep Ievels. Thanks, I recommend this to anyone who is concerned with their sleep as compared to their exercise. I would add that this is not a substitute for anyone that has medical problems that affect sleep such as prostate enlargement or sleep apnea

Almost perfect!

As others have noted, this app provides information about your overall sleep pattern as well as timing the alarm with the lightest part of that cycle, when possible.
This alarm is almost too gentle; I use it when I do not have to be up at a certain time. But I had grown almost immune to my other alarms, in that I can sleep through even my "wake the dead alarm" that has a harsh sound while it vibrates my mattress. By not using them every night I am more sensitive to them when I actually need them.
I would also like the ability to add a short note, such as "difficulty falling asleep." It would also be nice if the heart rate link would put the number into Smart Sleep.
There is an error in the part of the Settings that briefly explains some terms. Sleep Efficiency is the percentage of time spent in Light+Deep+REM Sleep in the total time between Bedtime and Rising - NOT the percentage of Awake time. Or, it's the percentage of Awake time subtracted from 100.

More sleep with this app!

This is the first app review I've written, that's how much I love this app. Over the past eight months, this app has challenged me to get more and better sleep by turning sleeping into a sport like activity. I look forward to waking up every morning to see how efficiently I performed and I consistently try to sleep longer to boost my stats lol. As many others have said, I do also love how gently it wakes me up. When I first started using the app, I was averaging 4 hours of sleep (I'm in law school and I work full time). It wasn't until I tracked how little and inefficiently I was sleeping that I realized how seriously deprived I was and we all know sleep deprivation messes with performance. I noticed particularly around exam time, it helped me become more aware of my sleeping patterns, which I think partially helped me make the dean's list last semester :)
