Upgrade ok....

xdirector4u2cx

I have been using sling since 2007 and on my windows 5 phone at that time. The biggest reason I stay with sling, they always remember windows mobile users, and we are the true techies that appreciate things when others are playing with toys. I actually liked the old layout, but I understand the need to make things "easier" what ever that means for those humans with problems reading....lol. Only reason I could think of to rip out the awesome context menu to go with the I guess idiot proof remote that most people don't even know how to use....but what ever keeps the sales up I am all for. And the dumbing down of everything seems to make the money roll in, I guess I should just accept that and move on....

Great work sling, even before this update, this system, network, and software is still the one to beat.

You guys need to give me the ability to throttle the bandwidth no matter what I am using. iPad, droid, or windows mobile. So when network conditions change quickly I don't get drop connections. Like happens all the time. That is what deep users really want.

Quality depends on your Internet/wireless speed

I have a cable modem for home wireless and 3G for Internet. This setup has worked well at home on iPad/iPhone, fair away from home. Internet providers don't like video streamers, it takes up their bandwidth. As for the app, I think less is better. Just let me watch video and change channels. The newer version does seem to crash more frequently, my opinion is that it depends on the available memory and quality of your hardware and streaming speed of your provider. I have noticed if I watch HD quality video, it causes problems. This is a work in progress and I am sure it will get better in time. Until then, just upgrade your hardware and provider to what you can afford and watch standard video. As for the app maker, please remember not everyone can afford the fastest hardware and upgrade every six months, so satisfy the masses and keep it simple for the sake of stability. I would rather be able to watch a standard quality video away from home, than have my app crash and skip just because you are trying to squeeze quality video into hardware that is not ready for it.

I have a high speed internet service through Comcast and an iPad2. I read all the reviews about people who are calling Sling Media "crooks," etc because they believe that their problems stem from the app itself. Forget all that. If you have good internet and an iPad2, this app works EXACTLY like I expected it to. I've been using Slingbox on my computer for a couple years now, and I've had the app on my iPhone for about the same amount of fime. I ran the app immediately after downloading and it was flawless, and even better than the version for my iPhone. The guide feature alone is worth $30. Instead of running through the on screen guide, there is a guide within the app that has channel icons, and can be scrolled though by swiping your finger up and down as if scrolling a web page. Anyway, I just wanted to let people know that there is nothing to fear with this app. The negative reviews are 99% from people who are either running with the first iPad, or with a subpar internet connection. I say download now!
