Works as Advertised!
I read of everyone having all these problems and I sit here thinking this stuff is working just like they said it would. I did have a few issues pairing the "things" with the Hub but most of that was all this is brand new to me, but videos and reading FAQs helped bring it all together and now I have a system that has met my every need. No app issue - update or not. I give it two thumbs up!
One Year of Usage
After one year, I am still a believer of the SmartThings app and hardware. I had one issue with some of the motion and door sensors that quit working. At last indication, the batteries were showing at least 30% to 40% charge level when they quit working. However, a quick call to tech support advised to change batteries and see if that worked. It did, so the battery charge level may read incorrectly, but other than that there have been no issues. I am sure an app update could correct that. Still works as advertised for me.
Make SmartThings “Smart” again!
Thanks for the recent update. I had a problem where my wife’s and I’s phones were not updating with the presence modes. This made it seem like we were always home and would never activate the away locked mode. Well I can say with this latest update it’s working perfectly. :-) thanks for making it work with IOS 11 and taking time to get it working again. Please keep SmartThings smart. :-) working great now and I have no problems. Easy way to check my home and tell what the current status of my house is. Love it. I was halfway across the country and the garage door had a glitch and went back to open status after wife left for work. I texted a friend and he stopped over and sure as heck, the door was open. He shut the garage door and made sure everything was safe. I was notified within 10-15 minutes and could find help within 5 minutes or so. Thanks SmartThings!!! This is what I was looking for. Keep it up.
Good support for iffy app
On the one hand, I’ve been plagued by issues totally preventable issues large and small over the years that have culminated in discovering when my hub died a few weeks ago that there’s no migration tool to transfer all of your devices, smart apps, settings etc to your upgrade/replacement hub. Even following the instructions for this time-consuming endeavor requires luck to get you back to square one.
On the other hand, while I did have to wait about 45 minutes on hold, Daniel in customer support did walk me through how to resolve a few particular issues I’m experiencing, and his willingness to listen and do his best to help is why my review is two stars instead of one.
The fact that I’m spending hours learning basic programming commands and structures that will allow me to migrate my smart home setup to a platform that requires a basic understanding of “programmer talk” ultimately reveals more about my experience with SmartThings than any diatribe I could post.
