SmartThins is still learning about UI/UX
Ok there is a reason that they only have 1.5 stars. First of all I know you are owned by Samsung and there is bad blood with Apple, but get over it. 1. You know there is a device out there called the iPad? Make a version of your app that realizes the real estate and uses it for a better experience. That is table stakes guys. 2. The routines are sloppy and hard to use. As an example I can set a light to come on at Sunset, but then have to program a new routine to set a specific time for it to go off. The automation system seems like beta ware. The app is supposed to recognize when phones leave my house and arrive and kick of routines based on that. That never happens. 3. No direct integration to Nest? Huh? There is a whole “works with nest” developer kit out there. Figure it out. It feels like they are not sure what they want to be. Navigating the app is confusing. I work in tech, i have apps galore, i have been using my SmartThings app for 5 months now and am still confused by it every time. Its not intuitive. Spend some money and hire a consulting firm that specializes in UI/UX. There are a lot of them out there. Clearly your in house team can’t get it done. Honestly makes me want to quit my job and start a competitor because I realize how much better this could be done. So far its been an expensive hobby.
Stability is bad
Updated... again: the folks at SmartThings never fail to disappoint, over and over. Smart Home Monitor is broken, again... and support is silent, as always. What a joke. Samsung - how much longer are you going to let your acquisition languish before you step in to fix it?
Updated: I couldn't wait to upgrade to the new version.... Now I can't wait for the next.... Will you guys ever sort out your bugs?
App is logging out for no reason. It seems I can avoid this bug if I don't go into the security screen. My home was left wide open and insecure this weekend because of this bug. This could be such a great product but it needs rock solid stability to keep its customer confidence high. Samsung - are you serious about this product and are you going to step in to invest in its success? I've spend hundreds of dollars getting the basics set up and I have hundreds more to go to get the system where I want it to be. You need to fix your software engineering and release teams. Something is broken with your people and/or process.
Home Monitor Broken - Love everything else
Home Monitor still does not show accurate status of the security system. Sometimes it just spins and spins, sometimes it does nothing at all. It does appear to change the system (have to confirm by logging into the website) but does not reflect accurately in the app. Very frustrating!!! This is such an integral and important part of the system that I can't believe that the higher-ups aren't screaming about this. Please fix this!! It is madening!
Another suggestion would be to make the app more user friendly and visually appealing. By this I mean that there should be a customizable dash board so that the end user can create a status page that contains just what THEY want to see. A great example of this is the SmartTiles app for SmartThings.
I love everything else about SmartThings… The open source, great support community, number of compatible devices, etc. But please, please Devs work on keeping things simple, customizable, and making things "just work".
