••• NOTE: Smarty is no longer in active development. It's still in the App Store for previous purchasers and the very curious. •••
You're smart. Your notes should be smart too. So get Smarty!
It's simple. It's powerful.
Smarty is a unique note-taking application that uses tags to automatically organize your data. Add a note. Add some tags. Smarty takes care of the rest.
Most applications use one of two methods for application: tags or folders.
Tags (otherwise known as categories, labels, etc.) are great because you don't have to think much about organization. Just add the tags and forget it. Unfortunately, you're left with a flat structure. You can see all "gifts," or you can see all things about your "mom," but it's a little harder to see "gifts" for your "mom."
The alternative is folders (otherwise known as lists), which allow you to organize your data however you want. Unfortunately, you can spend more time organizing your data than actually creating it. And, you're left with weird decisions like: do I put the "gifts" folder inside the "mom" folder, or do I put the "mom" folder inside the "gifts" folder?
Smarty offers another solution. Tag all your data, but then it automatically shows up as if you had put it in folders. Tag something with the "gift" tag and the "mom" tag, and it shows up as gift/mom and as mom/gift. This makes it easy to find, and it makes it easy to look at your data in different ways.
Smarty also has special system tags, that add to its power. For example, the Choice tag lets you create mutually exclusive sets of tags, allowing you to build things like to-do lists and shopping lists. Action tags allow you to create shortcuts to tag paths. Data detection tags allow you to add URL and phone number linking to your notes.
You can also export and import your Smarty database as XML. The interface works in either portrait or landscape. And a bookmark page makes frequently used tag paths easily accessible.

What's New in Version 1.6.1
- Fixed a bug that was preventing the import feature from working properly on multi tasking aware devices. This should be possible once again.
- Fixed a major bug that that would cause the application to not connect notes with tags properly.
Finally! Works the way your brain thinks.
I've been frustrated by all other organization tools for years. The other tools require linear thinking to both organize and then find information. Most people don't think in straight lines. We think in webs because multiple items are related in multiple ways. Smarty is a superb tool that lets you organize & then find things the way your brain actually works. My only complaint is that Smarty does not do enough. Imagine having the ability to tag and organize photos in a simple way with Smarty. . .
Explore your world of thought
Why are all tag systems not like this?
You've gone to the trouble of adding tags to your system, now you should be able to *explore* that system.
With this app you can open one tag and then see what other tags are available. Or see all notes from this point -- or any point after navigating into further tags. Find sets of content in any combination or order. You'll be surprised to learn new routes to your own material.
Advanced techniques such as tag hiding and sharing are great, and there's a built-in web server to download or upload notes wirelessly.
One tip: use the All & Email functions to 'print' out results once you've pathed into your desired tag set.
Worth the price. Will blow your world of thought wide open.
