Gizmodo.com -- "it'll pay for itself three times in one month."
SMS Touch enables users to compose SMS messages using Apple's wider landscape keyboard and send them through email without incurring SMS fees. (these messages are sent through your email program but arrive with the recipient as SMS messages).
Users can compose a text message in SMS Touch and then select the recipient's mobile phone number from their contacts. When the user hits send, SMS Touch generates an email message that is properly addressed to arrive with the recipient as an SMS message. When the recipient replies to the text message, the reply arrives in your email inbox.
Users can message up to 100 different individual recipients using SMS Touch. You can send as many text messages to these 100 people as you like. Note, SMS touch does not currently work with international (i.e., non-US) numbers.
What's New in Version 3.1
Fixed bug involving display of outbound email when send from landscape mode.
Awesome but flawed
I give 5 stars because I see that this is one of the only apps that generates the other person's carrier automatically without you having to know the persons carrier.
****Also once you have the persons text email stored, you can send them texts directly from MobileMail app faster and you don't have to rely on any servers (eg. TextFree, TextNow, TextPlus, etc.) besides your own email server. And if you have push email, you receive the reply right away.
But I don't like how it limits to 100 people. Many people have way more contacts then that.
Also you can't send to multiple numbers at once. I recomend to buy
I would also recommend TextPlus. (its the only one for FREE!, send to as many people as u want. 20 people at the same time. Push notifications, probably better than textfree.
I love this app. First of all you can type out your text some much eaiser with landscape mode. And second I'll never have to pay for overage charges for texting to much again. What's not to love. Yeah the SMS touch app is sort of clunky to use but if you send through the email app first instead of through SMS touch it makes life a lit eaiser.
Doesn't work for me on iOS4
I purchased this app and installed it in my iPod Touch which is running iOS4. When I try to send a message I get "Message not sent". I am in wiFi range and am able to send and receive emails. I have 2 SMTP servers configured in the email settings. In any case this application is worthless to me. I'll wait and see if an update is forthcoming.
