Indeed it DOES upload from Mac Photos
After you click SELECT PHOTOS & VIDEO, it opens a Finder window. You can of course select directly from a Finder folder, but if you have photos or video stored in Mac Photos, you can find them under Media->Photos. This will path you directly into the Photos directory, where you can find ALL of your Photos media, including the album names! This is a great tool!
Useless as it can not import from Apple Mac Photos app
Useless as it can not import from Apple Mac Photos app into Smugmug!
If Apple is behind this, i.e. disallowing what it used to allow with iPhoto, then I’m really starting to change my opinion of what used to be my favorite company.
Does not skip duplicates
The app does not offer a choice to skip, allow, or replace duplicates, so it is less powerful than uploading through the website.
It saves me from opening the browser and remembers the last folder I from which I uploaded, so I can save a few clicks if I am careful to only upload new photos.
I wish the website uploader and this app had an option to remember the last gallery to which I uploaded. That would save a few more clicks each time I upload.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
