SockCalc is a small, handy application for the sock knitter on-the-go. SockCalc will calculate knitting instructions for a basic kneesock from your individual measurements - either top-down or toe up.

It will help combat second-sock syndrome by helping you remember details of the first sock and keeping instructions for your socks-in-progress with you at all times.

For version 1.7 New interface - better controls, fixed gauge control issue, cleaner colors.

Three new features - a notes section to type in anything you like, the ability to attach a photo of your yarn and needles or finished socks, and settings to store your measurement unit and knit direction preferences.

Sockcalc now has public issue tracking at GitHub - see the support URL. You can also still email with questions or suggestions

What's New

Version 1.7.5

Many more bug fixes - all aided by new automated UI testing that finds the critters even when they are hiding somewhere in landscape view on a device I don't own. This will help me get future updates out much faster and with fewer new bugs added.

Two fixes worth mentioning - toe-up instructions were badly broken, and notes will be included on the instructions.

Ratings and Reviews

Love it!

I love this app! It's great to be able to have my family's measurements all in one place. I like the fact that you can change the gauge for whatever yarn and needles you are using. It is true though that it seems tat you can only make knee hi's, but I'm trying to use the basic pattern and just tweak it a bit. I would love to see an option to make any length of socks seeing as how the measurements are there already. I was a little disappointed tat you couldn't make calf, or ankle socks. Maybe a future update? It's the only reason for four stars instead of 5! It is well worth the $0.99 for this one.

I would not have bought it

I only knit "crew" length socks. All I wanted was a place to keep measurements for various people, and have it spit out a basic, top-down, crew-length pattern. I put in needle size, my gauge (row and stitch gauge), and measurements for floor to ankle, around ankle, around foot, and foot length. It will not take those & give me a pattern; I get an error. I do have my "basic" top down pattern in my head for my own size (72 stitches/72 rows, heel on 36 stitches/36 rows for simplicity). I think I can increase to 88 (I want a multiple of 4) for my husband's giant socks, but it won't even make an attempt at a pattern. DESIGNER SHOULD MAKE CLEAR - CLEAR, CLEAR, CLEAR - I CAN'T EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH - THE LIMITATIONS OF THIS PROGRAM. I won't buy another, not even for 99 cents, without reading the reviews first. This program STINKS.

Not as nice as desktop version

I bought this app because I love the desktop software on my Mac. This app is disappointing. It doesn't have standard shoe sizes available, as does the desktop version, so I had to go searching for the required information online. (These socks are going to be gifts; I know the recipients' shoe sizes, but I don't have all of their measurements.) The app will not give you a pattern unless you fill in ALL of the fields, so I had to guess. Once I entered the data, it gave me a pattern for a knee-length sock. Who knits knee-length socks on a regular basis nowadays??? Please fix this.
