"Sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my time writing a review when I should really just be pointing at a game and demanding that people play it. This is one of those times. Steve Jackson's Sorcery! is an absolutely marvellous fantasy storybook adventure. Lushly illustrated and expertly told, it should not be missed by anyone even remotely interested in the genre." -- Gamezebo
"Let’s not mince words here... Sorcery’s unique blend of tabletop-like roleplaying (including an incredible combat system quite unlike anything I’ve seen before), and elaborate branching pathways with custom scripts preserving the feeling of Steve Jackson’s work make me now want to… no, HAVE TO acquire an iOS device" - Just Press Start
From legendary designer Steve Jackson, co-founder of Lionhead Studios (with Peter Molyneux), and Fighting Fantasy and Games Workshop (with Ian Livingstone); and inkle, the studio behind the award-winning, App Store featured Frankenstein, Sorcery! is an interactive adventure like never before.
The app uses inklewriter technology to tell your journey in real-time, shaping the story around your choices. The text itself changes based on how you play and what you do, and in combat, the action is description on the fly based on how you play.
Featuring original illustrations by John Blanche, new character art by Eddie Sharam (DC Comics), an interactive map by Mike Schley (Wizards of the Coast) and music by David Wise (Donkey Kong Country).
"The Shamutanti Hills" is Part 1 of 4. Part 2, "Kharé: Cityport of Traps", is out now, and will load all of your completed Part 1 games to continue your adventure. Part 3 is coming later this year (but while you wait, check out our new game, 80 DAYS).

Shorter than the next one
If you are hesitating over the price, this game has no in app advertisements, purchases, or nagging to review like many other games do.
This is like a choose your own adventure novel (which is what it's based on I hear. They were never available locally when I was younger. ). But the fighting has an element of strategy. You must read the text on the screen or you will have trouble figuring what to do. Spells are your friend.
I recommend replaying several times. Rewind when you want to see what other choices there are and when you have the option to be kind, do so. It Will help you in part 2. They're releasing part 3 and 4 later this year.
Fantastic conversion of a classic
This is a fantastic conversion of a great gamebook. It plays like a mixture of an interactive story (with tons of decisions to make, some choosing your path through the game, some just letting you shape your character's personality) and a tabletop RPG.
The new combat system (using some mild strategy elements instead of the dice rolls in the gamebook) is really fun, and generally the interface and gameplay mechanics are great and exhibit an insane amount of polish.
You can reach your goal in probably a couple of hours, but there are many different paths you can take, giving the game quite a bit of replayability. All the paths lead to the same ending, but let you gather different items and allies for the next chapter(s). All your characters that reach the end are saved in the cloud and will be selectable in the next game to continue the adventure.
I can't wait for the next three parts to be released.
Brilliant Game
I cannot even begin to describe the adventures to be had while playing through this modern adaptation of what I believe to be the best gamebook series of all time. The 1980s was a golden age of gamebooks, but the art was eventually lost in the all of the new forms of entertainment that have taken shape. There is no question of whether or not you should purchase the app, the question lies in how soon you can get to play it. Stop reading the musings of an old soul and play the game.
