App Not Quite There
I have constant problems losing my connection from ipad app to Soundtouch speaker. The app is much too slow and sensitive in making a wifi connection, and requires too much work to get one(to many things to do). Also, I have two wifi networks, and like to switch when one is slow, to the other. When I do that, I lose all of my presets, and have to jump through too many hoops to get the new network working. Then on a day when that second network is slow, and I want to switch back to the original one, again, I have to jump through a lot of hoops to get the presets working on the other network. Why can't the app simply remember presets for the network and seamelssly switch from one network to the other. I have a Logitech Squeezebox app and that app has no problem conncting with the Squeezebox radio (and its presets and favorites) from different networks. Otherwise I like the Bose app. However, I do also wish one could save favorite stations in the app (that are in addition to the presets). The app, though, is a good start for the Bose Sountouch, system iii. Still more work needs to be done with it, to make the Soundtouch Speaker really fun to have.
Changed My Entire Music Experience!
After being introduced to the product a couple years ago, I haven't been able to switch since. I'm an owner of an eclectic mix of Bose products and I have to say SoundTouch is my favorite. Imagine uninterrupted music streamed at a touch of a button in any room?
I have a far from stellar WiFi connection and I've been operating my SoundTouch 10's for several months WITHOUT FAIL. In my opinion, anyone experiencing issues are likely due to user error, unfamiliarity with the actual technology, and a poor WiFi network. In addition, if anyone references the manual, they will see in addition to the WiFi method, there's the direct connection method with the enclosed micro B USB cord and a computer. Or why not strengthen the connection with an Ethernet, which is an option in every system minus the 10?
Also, in lieu of a sleep timer, it has an auto-off mode (I fall asleep to Nature Radio on Pandora) and mine will turn off after hours of inactivity. It's automatic.
I love the presets! They're just like my car radio and I'm such a creature of habit. Plus, the remote access from the app allows me to power it on/off without distance limitations.
Many of us don't realize how in a home setting, Bluetooth can be so inconvenient until you have a WiFi music system like Bose's SoundTouch lineup of products. The app really is the best!
Get a new router to solve SoundTouch app connection problems.
I was exasperated with Bose SA-5 in the first two months of owning it. The only way of controlling the amp is through the SoundTouch phone app and usual response from the app was "Searching for system on network." I tried rebooting the router, amp and iPhone and reconnecting the SA-5 to the wifi many many times. It was terrible when music was actually playing but there was no way to turn it off because the app was "Searching for system on network." I called Bose support many times and they fixed the connection temporarily by restarting the router or SA-5 but there was never a permanent solution. They sometimes blamed it on interference around the iPhone. This router connected perfectly to multiple wifi devices (phones, PCs, TV).
Then Verizon sent me a new router and SA-5 connection problems went away. The iPhone SoundTouch app can now control the amp reliably. The old router was
Actiontec MI424WR-GEN2 Hardware version E and the new router is
Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I Hardware version I.
The four stars are because Bose put me through a lot of frustration over just turning on and off an expensive system of two pairs of Bose 791 in-ceiling speakers and SA-5. They could have
Either wrote SoundTouch app that works for all routers or
Suggested the workaround I found luckily or
Just provide an old style remote with the amp.
