Description

SoundyThingie is an application that translates drawn lines into music. Additionally to just drawing lines it lets you modify them in a variety of ways, like moving them around or connecting them.
If you want to see it in action you can watch the video on the support website: http://www.soundythingie.net

The application starts with an almost entirely black screen, waiting to be drawn onto by you. Each line created results in a sound that is related to the way the line was drawn.

There are only a few principles that make up that sound. Most important are:
- The vertical position of a line determines it's pitch. Lines at the top of the screen sound high, lines at the bottom sound low.
- Drawing speed determines volume. The faster you draw, the louder a line will be.

Besides that there are many buttons to press and knobs to turn which influence the sounds. You can later change a line's volume, attach other lines to it, choose from different waveforms.
You can also load and save your work, modify triggers and whatnot.

There's a short interactive tutorial included with the application that explains most of the functionality and leaves some features to be discovered.

What's New in Version 1.1

- share soundythingie files

Customer Reviews

Yay!

I've always had a soft spot for this app, and I'm very glad to see it's finally had an update. All the new additions are great, especially the iPhone support. I would love to see something like background audio or Audiobus compatibility so I could run the stock sounds through an effects chain, but whatever. I'll take it!

BTW— Kids love this thing. It should be in the Kid's Games category, too.

Not for the unimaginative.

I think other reviewers saying negative things are best left with InstaDJmatic apps and shouldn't bother with anything this unique and creative. For REAL musicians and sonic explorers there's a lot of possibility in this app, and the ability to export files means that it's actually usable for recording and songwriting. Risers, pads, and more are easy to make and tweak.

Music? Lol!

The description says it will make music from the lines you draw. If city traffic sounds like music to you, then maybe you'll agree. It's creative, but also useless. I'm deleting it. Oh, and to the person who couldn't figure out how to start over, I found it in the first 2 minutes. Tap the bomb at the bottom and then again when it says "confirm".
