SPEAKall!® is an evidence-based therapy app specifically designed to introduce augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) in autism spectrum disorders and/or developmental speech and language disorders. SPEAKall! was originally developed by the Purdue University Program for Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) in conjunction with the Purdue AAC Research Lab and the Purdue Speech-Language Clinic. This application has been designed to help children and adults with little to no functional speech acquire an initial symbol vocabulary and learn the process of constructing sentences. Our new Preschool Core Vocabulary with PCS™ symbols enhances early language learning; and the SPEAKtogether!™ cloud-based services allow to share and synchronize content across devices.

SPEAKall! is a versatile learning platform that goes beyond simple symbol activations for voice output by actively engaging the learner in speech and language acquisition. It can be used to target a variety of communication goals including
• Functional communication
• Natural speech production
• Emerging language
• Social interaction and social-pragmatic skills
SPEAKall! can also be integrated into an exchange-based communication approach to make an easy transition from picture communication books. The interface is easily customizable to each learner’s specific needs and can grow with the learner as needs and capabilities expand.

Research and development of SPEAKall! are sponsored by the National Institutes of Health – National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). SPEAKall! has received outstanding recognition in the AAC industry as documented by prestigious awards including:
• 2017 Electronic Component News (ECN) Impact Award, Best Product Design in Medical Devices

My "go to" app

I have used apps for AAC for many years and after discovering this app, it is my "go to" app -- my first choice when beginning AAC. This low cost app has so many features and options that I rarely need more than this app offers. The interface is simple which helps the communicator easily find the icons to create thier message. The video and written support materials for this app are wonderfully helpful, and include a step-by-step, evidence based protocol to teach requesting skills. I work with families, and the families report ease in programming and highly adaptable usage across the daily routines they engage in with the communicator. The app easily supports communication needs in school as well. Both core and fringe vocabulary are easy to add into the app. This app is updated to integrate Siri and the developers add updates as more research and consumer feedback supports and informs changes. I highly recommend this app.

Highly Effective IPad App for Children with Autism

Speakall! is a great app for children with severe communication problems, in specific it is wonderful for individuals who have Autism. My name is Brooke Kresca and I am an undergraduate in Speech,Language, and Hearing Science at Purdue University. I highly recommend this app due to the success I've seen in helping children with autism spectrum disorder communicate their wants and needs effectively. This app would be extremely useful for behavioral and speech therapist, as well as parents and caregivers. Speakall! app is user friendly and easy to navigate, which makes it a fantastic purchase! This version of the app is awesome because it uses Siri Voice. This is a great feature for the children we are seeing at the speech clinic here at Purdue University!

Great app!

SPEAKall! is an incredibly useful app that allows those on the autism spectrum to be able to communicate basic needs and feelings. As an undergraduate research assistant, I have seen the effectiveness of this app in allowing clients to communicate through an interactive, easy to use interface. I would recommend this app to anyone looking for an alternate form of communication for a child on the Autism spectrum. The newest version also features the Siri voice, which caters the app's functioning to kids, making it feel more similar to a device that their peers may be using. Overall, this is an incredible app that promotes communication in kids on the Autism spectrum!
