Speedometer HD for iPad is here. A beautifully designed app with nice themes can be used whenever you want to measure the speed you are moving - in car, train, plane, ship or simply walking. But not only the speed, but as well RPM of your engine.
- 4 nice themes
digital theme, two sport car themes and old-school theme - check screenshots.
- imperial and metric units
all themes can be customized to use your local speed units (default: imperial)
- status bar on/off switch
it's up to you if you want to display status bar with clock and battery or leave more space for graphics
- precision/accuracy settings
You can easily switch between three different speed accuracy measurements - faster or more accurate
Two sport car themes displays not only the speed, but estimates the RPM of your engine
When testing this app out, I noticed the speed is very accurate. I now use this in a car in which the speedometer stopped working (at least until I manage to get the couple hundred dollars to fix that). I do have one minor request though, the way I have my car set up, my iPhone can only go in vertically. Was wondering if an update can fix that! And how do o get to that status bar option? Thank you!
I had to leave the program running for several minutes to report anything other than 0 mph. (I am on Amtrak's high-speed Acela train, going approximately 120 mph.) Finally the program declared that I was going 7 mph. Well, on the digital display. On the analog display, I'm going 13 mph. And there the two displays remain, no matter the changing speed of the train. I have an excellent 3G signal and a WiFi connection.
And, as others have pointed out, the screenshots omit the ads. Unless the author thinks that there's something wrong with ads, I can't see why the screenshots would be doctored to pretend that they don't exist.
Looks cool, didn't work
The gauges look great. It does respond to speed changes, but it was always way off actual speed. Also the tach was all over the place, not really sure how that is suppose to work properly anyway. Does it listen for motor sounds? Does it try to feel shift changed in the car? I really wanted this app to work.
