App made TDS honest
Signed up for TDS 15 mb/s. After installation, with installers still there, I tested and got 7.2. Basically was told that's 'close enough.' After replacing the original faulty modem/router after one day, the test yielded same results. After 1.5 hrs on the phone with TDS, they ran some tests and told me my service was 'training' at 8. In other words it was capped at 8. TDS said they fixed the problem and that 15 service really means 8-15. Watch out for this trick. Wonder how I would have uncovered the deception without the app? Now I get just over 8. Will probably drop this deceptive service. UPDATE: Lately TDS takes it down to levels where watching video is impossible. Use this app to test speed each time I call the jerks at TDS (which used to have wonderful customer service). Once they know I caught them, I get improved speed for a week or two. Then repeat.
Works perfectly
I wadi tropics to this app by the technician servicing my home internet connection (back when I had AT&T). It always works, giving me instant data about my speed. I've more than once used this data as corroborative evidence when contacting my old ISP about a connection much slower than paid for. And I've used it to repeatedly verify that my speeds with my new ISP are always at or better than promised.
It's one thing to think you're connection is fast or slow. It's another to verify that thought.
Good general use tool, but...
This is a very useful general purpose tool. I've found it handy to get a general idea of network throughput on various networks throughout the years. However, in light of today's issues with throttling and inhibiting connections to services, this product needs to implement an option connect to a service over a specific port and then determine throughput based on that data. This will more truthfully indicate whether our connections are being throttled.
Looking forward to a better product in the near future.
