Witchcraft, in various historical, anthropological, religious and mythological contexts, is the alleged use of supernatural or magical powers.

Historically, it was widely believed that witchcraft involved the use of these powers to inflict harm upon members of a community or their property. Since the mid 20th century, the term witchcraft has sometimes been used to distinguish between bad witchcraft and good witchcraft, with the latter often involving healing.

The concept of witchcraft as harmful is normally treated as a cultural ideology, a means of explaining human misfortune by blaming it either on a supernatural entity or a known person in the community
Probably the most obvious characteristic of a witch was the ability to cast a spell, a "spell" being the word used to signify the means employed to carry out a magical action.

A spell could consist of a set of words, a formula or verse, or a ritual action, or any combination of these. Spells traditionally were cast by many methods, such as by the inscription of runes or sigils on an object to give it magical powers; by the immolation or binding of a wax or clay image (poppet) of a person to affect him or her magically; by the recitation of incantations; by the performance of physical rituals; by the employment of magical herbs as amulets or potions; by gazing at mirrors, swords or other specula for purposes of divination; and by many other means.

Update!: This is an amazing app. The thing about virtual candles is wrong tho...
It is definitely worth 99¢. I just wish that there was a better navigation (i.e. Table of contents and a search bar). The glitch about "iPod out of memory" doesn't happen so much for me to want to kill this app, but enough to be a bother. When it happens, click the notification's 'ok', then click 'spells', close the app, open it, click 'spells', hit 'back' on the top bar, then you can go to your favorites. If you try to go straight to your favorites, it will freeze so bad, the you will have to restart your iPod.

It is an amazing app. So amazing, that one can use a virtual candle, and the spells still work. My eye color is actually changing to purple. It is not 3/4 money spells, but the spells are bunched together if they have similar properties/ effects. Money and love are at the beginning (the first spell bunch is for Novices) and they get progressingly more advanced and serious. It also let's you send spells to people, and post them on Facebook. Get the lite version first tho, because magick in not for everyone.

v 1.1 looks good but a couple of issues

[edit after getting locked screen back to main]

the major reason for only giving three stars is that there are a couple of big problems with this app. one is a bug, and one is an obvious navigation shortcoming.

1. first thing that happened after getting this app was, when browsing through, i tapped the "more..." button and tapped on one of the selections under "Those who liked this also liked". this took me to the itunes store like it should, but when i returned to the app, i found it stuck on a screen with a spinning wheel and the text "Opening the iTunes store on your phone to take you to the app..."

doesn't matter if you leave the app and come back, it's still stuck like that, but a good ol' DOUBLE TAP on the bottom button of the iphone and you can fully quit the program from there, after which the app returns to its normal main screen.

2. the obvious shortcoming with navigation is when you go into a section and there are LOTS of items, you have to flip the page one by one to go through them. this should be an easy fix with an extra category layout that allows you to jump to the result you're seeking (for the new user as well as those using "favorites").

otherwise, this looks like a cool .99 app, demonstrating some forms and traditions.

Not for mobile life; mainstream spells

Spells are the same as other apps, even down to the same spelling errors and the interior artwork (photos) in most cases. Same person marketing the content twice? Obviously AppCore is not checking. I also get the "out of memory" errors and the app will shut off while switching screens now and then.

Being a practicing witch, and this being a mobile app, I was obviously looking for something relevant to a mobile life. How about a chanting spell to find a parking space in a crowded lot? A goddess blessing to break through a traffic jam? Something to appease the gods so your commuter bus will arrive on time or a little late? Spells and chants that relate to college life? Shopping? A business setting?

Not totally worthless, but just not useful as something on my blessed phone either. Fine for fluff bunnies I suppose.
