Gets reaaaallllyyyy boring in a matter of time
There's nothing much to do with this overpriced bouncy ball besides play the same games over and over again and make it spin around on your floor and flash a couple of lights, im not saying it's a bad product in any way, I just don't like spending a hundred bucks on a rc ball. I will say though, this thing can go through ALOT, I've dropped this thing on pretty much every surface from pretty much every height possible and it still works to this very day (I watched a video of some dudes giving the Sphero a direct hit from a shotgun and it maintained perfectly, a small scratch and that was all), also it's waterproof, so that's good! I feel like the guys behind Sphero are trying to milk their idea, however. For instance, the BB-8 Sphero that was a big hit not to long back, but I have yet to hear anyway talk about how fun their Sphero is, Star Wars themed or not. In short this thing is pretty cool for about five second but then it just gets repetitive and time consuming, you'd occupy your kids more by spending 12$ on a disc of PeeWees Big Adventure and a couple of lollipops, let along spending 100$ on a remote controlled wheel.
Pure amazing, but...
I got this app and the sphero today, Dec. 25, 2017, and it is amazing. I love the missions, the tricks, and especially the boost! But I have one suggestion. If you can, you should add a battery life icon so it shows how much battery Sphero 2.0 has left. That would be great, but otherwise, I love the app!
Updated review: I also have another problem. In the app, when I hold down the boost button it only goes down to 80%. I think that when you usually hold down the boost button, it goes all the way down to 0%. But nope, my boost button goes down to 80% and stays at 80%. That’s a problem for me because I have this mission that I have to use the whole boost button under 60 seconds, and sense my boost button doesn’t do that, I’ve been stuck on this mission since level one. :(
If you add that and fix my problem with my boost button I’ll bump up my review to 5 stars.
Great product, terrible app
First of all I do like the Sphero product. It is a great remote controlled ball, but that's all I want (and paid for): a remote controlled ball. I don't want a over complicated flashy app with missions and unlocks, I just want locomotion and light controls. The old 'Drive' app was exactly that. It allowed for the device to excel at what it is: an rc ball. Now that the drive app is no longer available (and if you do still have it, it will no longer function if you update the firmware) this 'Sphero' app is the next best, but it hinders and obstructs the main purpose of the product which is to be a remote controlled ball.
Other thought: the app cannot change orientation. It is landscape with left side of the screen being the bottom and cannot flip. It is annoying for me because I like my landscape apps right side to be the bottom, but all in all not a big deal.
Final suggestion: bring back the Drive app. It's great that Sphero with its many apps can be more than just an rc ball, but don't impede the main function of the product.
