Does (almost) exactly what I need and performs superbly!!
This app is GREAT and does (almost) exactly what I need! I had been using 'Handy Shopper' on the Palm way back when and really made a lot of use out of it. Then I switched over to Blackberry and that was the end of my using it for a while (can't remember if a version for the Blackberry simply was not available at the time or whether I had chosen not to purchase). I finally switched over to iPhone last year and really needed a shopping list program/app once again so considered getting this. Some of the negative reviews however made me think twice so I took my time deciding. I finally decided to go ahead and try it out, along with the desktop version and was *very* impressed!!It works flawlessly on my Mac (the desktop version) and my iPhone (the app) and makes creating my shopping lists a breeze!!
The ONLY thing that is drastically missing however is a list of items that have been 'added to the cart' (as was the case in Handy Shopper for the Palm). It really is nice to know how much I am going to spend before I get to the cash register. I know that the list of needed items totals up, but once you check off the list what you have added to your shopping cart in the store, there is no knowing just how much you will be spending since, like most people, the items I ACTUALLY get change once I am in the store:) Other than that, I ***highly*** recommend it!
Scared Me for a While
I down loaded the latest version of this app today. It appeared to work fine until I added a new item. Now the display is messed up and I can't go back to a higher level. I'd delete and reinstall the app, but I'm afraid I'd loose all my data. It appears only cursory QA was done on this version. For an app this old, there should be an extensive set of test cases that should be run before a release.
Update: I contacted the publisher about the problem and got a fix from them in 12 hours. I had to kill and restart the active process. Their instructions:
Press the iPhone button twice so a list of all running apps appears.
Tap and hold on SplashShopper.
A red circle will appear on it.
Tap on that read circle and this stops SplashShopper running.
Press the Home Screen button again twice.
Run SplashShopper again.
After this fixed my problem, I added several more new items and the problem didn't reoccur.
I've been using this app for years and have otherwise had no problems with it. I haven't used any others so I can't make a comparison. My only complaint is the necessity of having to purchase a PC/Mac app to manage the data. The data is saved by iTunes as it made it to my new iPhone 4s without issue. It would be nice to save the data to the cloud so that I could sync it to my iPad where it would be much easier to update. I might even buy the HD version if that feature was available.
My Favorite App for 15 years
This is easily my most frequently used app since my Palm IIIc days in 1998. I was concerned reading the mixed reviews on here when planning on converting over to iOS, and the Blackberry version was disappointing. Glad this one did not disappoint. Good interface, WiFi syncing works well, and this version is much more user-friendly then the Blackberry version. The only drawback which hasn't changed from the Blackberry version is the inability to adjust column widths, which makes lists harder to read on the phone. Removing columns helps, but that is what made the BB version nearly unusable. By far the best shopping list app and I have tried them all.
