The piano keyboard looks like a piano keyboard because of the physical requirements of it's strings and keys. An electronic table-top synth is built around clumsy knobs and buttons because of the limitations of the physical hardware and circuitry.
A software synth doesn't have these limitations. Software can mold itself around the hand. It can understand the meaning in a gesture. A great synth can be hand-centric. That's what Sqeech is all about.
A smart fullscreen multi-touch frequency synth. The entire screen is your fretboard. Rendering eight cd-quality bendable audio waveforms. Customize the size of the keyboard and the range of sound instantly. Audiobus compatible. Designed to be the perfect input interface.
You get three powerful modes of sound: spectrum gives you a full oscillator; chromatic mode keeping you on scale using half steps; or major key mode with all 12 keys.
Responds to eight simultaneous touches by the user. A vibrato is achieved with a side-to-side pulsing of the fingers. Each touch has a separate volume channel giving you an living organic sound. Additionally two effect propellors are included for firefly squeeching effects with full control over pitch and speed from a finger.
Designed for expression, you can join in to any live acoustic set or electronic machination instantly. This synth delivers deep bass or high-end electronic rain in one fret board. This app turns the modern synthesizer into a lightsaber where sound and motion become one in your fingers.
Evolve Effect - This is the heart of Sqeech. Evolve responds to the energy you give it. Do a slow steady rise with your finger and Sqeech responds with a steady fall off and light cavitation. Now girate and throw your fingers up-and-down the scale and Sqeech responds with a cavitation wake that's choppy and full of life. It's fingers across the water. As light as a water spider or as heavy as a boulder.
Range Bar - The range bar let's you instantly select a pitch threshold for the fretboard. You can change as you play. A smaller range makes more room for your fingers to add vibrato to your sound.
Hold/Sustain Bar - You can hold notes by tapping the sustain bar at anytime. This frees your hands to add additional sounds while sustaining.
Pitch Slider - You can bend all sounds currently playing by using the pitch slider. It has a weighted return-to-center feature control by your touch. Create slow dramatic pitch falls or rises that you can play on top of as you return to center.
Two Effect Propellors - Use the effects to change the character of your note. Raising the propellor on the screen causes the propellors pitch to go higher or lower. Left-to-right affects the propellors speed in real-time giving you a powerful melody finger to squeech out a solo.
What's New in Version 1.21
Evolve filter volume patch, default settings updated.
Very interesting app...
Works on my os8, not sure if it's been fixed or if reported issues were user or device specific. Very interesting way to approach music. Still playing with it but it's an intriguing visual interface for building sounds and exploring the relationships between different notes and combinations thereof.
Great fun to play and very intuitive soundscaping machine; it's my 2 year old's fave iOS music app. Beyond that there's great sounds and surprising depth; way beyond a toy. Wish it could be a MIDI controller.
A Total Blast
Apps like this are why i absolutely LOVE iOS. A brilliant noisemaker.
