StackPad - Wallpaper Designer
By Erwin Zwart
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
It's incredibly hard to find a beautiful wallpaper for your iPad, especially with the new iPad's Retina display. Wallpapers you will find on the internet or most apps are not personal in any way. With StackPad you can design beautiful and personal Retina wallpapers using you own pictures!
You can create wonderful personal wallpapers using your own pictures and edit the position, size and rotation using multitouch gestures. Once you’re done, you can choose one of the included backgrounds or add your own background. With just one push of a button the wallpaper is generated and saved to your device.
Portrait mode only
Since I use my iPad in landscape mode all the time, this app doesn't work for me. Trying to compensate by rotating pictures while in the portrait also didn't work as the pictures then became clipped at the borders. Otherwise nice start to this program. I played with the app quite a bit today, and found no "crashing" problems. I have the latest iOS and an iPad3.
Another issue...why would I want to "tweet" every picture? The program goes right to the Tweet option. I should just be able to save the picture and THEN decide if I wanted to tweet or Facebook it or email it, etc. If it is a "wallpaper" program, then I probably would just want to create some wallpapers to use, like with my grand kids pictures on it or such. I can always share it through Photos.
Does what it should but would be nice to have a preview of the portrait and not just the lock screen. The background made doesn't fit perfectly unless you make it a bit smaller than the work area but it is the best I have found for the job. Easy to use and self explanatory. Would be nice to have an options button to turn off the twitter function.
Some strange design choices
Why on earth does it try to automatically post a wallpaper to twitter when I hit save? That should obviously be 2 seperate buttons.
Its also baffling that the wallpaper doesn't take up the full screen. Download an app specifically advertised for making iPad/iPhone wallpapers and you either have to crop the image or have large black borders?
It could also really use some better ways to lay out the photos other than manually and randomly. Fan them out, in a grid, etc.
Other than those issues it works well, so it deserves 3 stars but it need some work.
