Fun & Engaging!
I have been playing this for a few months now, and can honestly say that I enjoy it. So much so, that it has apparently become a part of my daily life - something few other games can claim. The microtransactions in this free-to-play game are certainly not necessary, but as such models are designed, hope to lure those who are impatient, or simply don't mind investing into the game. Either way, patience you must have as you grind daily to unlock new levels, as well as collect the shards, gear, and various in-game currencies it takes to build your teams. Not to mention the experience points it takes to level yourself up. Join a guild as soon as you unlock it to help with collecting gear, and login and complete all daily tasks to maximize your efforts. Overall, I enjoy the game to the point where it is the first and last thing I do every day, not to mention on whatever breaks I can squeeze in throughout the day. With a variety of things to unlock over time, which increases what you can do every day, then eventually numerous combinations of ways to customize your characters, and build various types of teams, each which may possess different synergies, this turn-based RPG should be able to satisfy fans of the genre, even if you are not a Star Wars fan.
$ is necessary?
So I see a lot of reviews on here saying money is necessary to play the game, but that's just not true. It's the only game for the phone that I've played for more than like a month (I've been playing for over a year), yet I've never spent a single penny on it. The key for this game is patience: you can't jump into it and expect to be the best in a week, even if you spend lots of money. It's definitely the kind of game where grinding is necessary, but there's always a lot to do, so it doesn't necessarily have that grinding feel like other games have...at least if you're into the Star Wars universe, that is. One of the most important things you can do is find an active guild. Even if y'all aren't the greatest at first, you can help each other get gear quickly, and other peoples' tips and insight are also valuable. Anyway, I've been playing this game for a long time, and I'm still getting better every day, yet I've never spent any money on it. So don't listen to the people who say money is necessary, they are just impatient
Changing my previous review. You can progress without spending money but don't ever waste a gem on data cards. They always show you the roll range and it is always, always, always the worst. I've actually spent a little money way back on this because of impatience and it was money wasted. Again, 100 for 100 you will always get the worst roll on data cards of any sort. It may say "10 to 330 character cards". It will be 10 or maybe even 12 just to appear like there is a chance. There isn't.
I'm fairly happy with this now, but I disagree with some of the classifications that affect bonuses. Kylo Ren is a Human, first order, attacker. Okay. You can get by with segregating the empire from the first order and the rebel alliance from the "resistance", but Kylo Ren is a Sith! Any Jedi that goes to the dark side is a Sith. I would argue that the bonuses should be grouped for empire and first order non-sith, resistance and rebel alliance, and empire Sith with first order Sith. Otherwise, I'd give five stars. Either way, I love it.
