*** STEAMBIRDS ***
The addictive, turn-based gameplay of Flash hit SteamBirds (created by Radial Games and Spry Fox) has arrived on the App Store! Rewrite history as you fight through more than 30 missions, using bombs, missiles, poison gas and 5 different aircraft to bring down 8 different steam-powered enemy planes. Plan your strategy, input your orders, and build up your combo to crush the enemy! Available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, SteamBirds lets you automatically share (via some of that "cloud" magic) your progress between devices. SteamBirds for iOS also features new graphics, music, and touch controls from the creators of Canabalt!
*** NOTES ***
iPhone3GS, iPhone4, third- and fourth-generation iPods, and the iPad will feature the smoothest animations and the most special effects. The game runs fine on older devices, it just won't look quite as spectacular.
What's New in Version 1.3.1
Fun game but...
The core mechanics of Steambirds really are good, but there are deep flaws in the design that ultimately break the game. Most notable among these is the way missiles work. It's bad enough that they apparently choose their targets at random which often leads to a death from your own missile several turns after launch. But far worse, they launch at a low enough speed that, unless you throw your plane into a hard turn as you launch, you'll simply drive straight into your own missile and die.
The net effect is that success in later missions is more a result of luck than skill. That's really too bad since the game is fun - up to the point that you realize you may as well just be rolling dice.
I urge you guys at Semi Secret to rethink some of your weapon designs. You could have a genuinely excellent little game here.
Great game but needs design work for missiles
I originally played this game on the pc and liked it enough to purchase it for the iPad. I enjoy the game but I have a huge issue with the missiles in the game as you get to File l-2 you have to rely upon your missiles to get you through the level the problem is that you are unable to designate either a target or avoid them after launch so most of the time you shoot yourself. I finally had to stop playing the game due to the frustration of this I hope that a future update will fix this as this could be an awesome game if they would fix the missiles.
I would also like to see either a system where you can choose which abilities your plane has or allow me to choose the plane that I am going to use. Maybe even a credit system to purchase planes?
This is a good game in general, but there are TOO many bugs with missiles. First, they basically spin around. Second, they never try to avoid you. Third, they count missiles(and other weapons) as team 0 so you have to destroy all the missiles before advancing to the next level. If you can fix these bugs it will be great! Also, File 2 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard. I also like that one because a bunch of nerds are following you and committing suicide lol. ;D
