I stupidly paid for this game during a sale and didn't even try it first but it's the first big fish hidden object adventure game I have not really liked. I have the same complaints as some others in that its slow to load and you have to exit all the way out to get to the strategy guide. I, also, was a decent way into the game and realized I had missed an item I needed to play a HO scene. Unfortunately, there was a glitch and no option to close the HO scene. I needed the item to unlock the card with the item list for the scene and i couldnt get out of the scene to go get it. I actually had to reset the game and start over. If i hadnt already come so far, i would have just deleted it. A lot of the time this game does not follow a logical flow and having no identifying label on the items nor a map or journal or anything of the nature makes it hard to figure out what's next. I don't even use a strategy guide unless I'm really stuck but I have had to close out of the game all the way to check the guide on this one several times and it stinks.
I am on the last chapter and I can't wait for it to be over. I normally don't write reviews but I have to warn others about this game. It is lacking in too many areas to be much fun. Big Fish games has plenty of good ones to choose from so pick a different one! Only gave two stars for having a decent story line and because one star didn't do the good parts of the game justice. It's barely two stars though...barely.
Overall good, but...
Actually this wasn't a half bad game. I'm using the ipad 2 and had absolutely none of the technical problems that many others seem to have been experiencing. Unlike others, I liked the storyline and the logic of the game play and thought the graphics and music were pretty good. Slow loading time wasn't an issue for me, because I wasn't in a hurry as others apparently are.
However, I subtract to stars for the following reasons:
1. Lack of labels on inventory items. This cannot seriously be that difficult a thing to do, so get started.
2. Useless hint system. It doesn't point you to do the next thing, rather it simply highlights the next thing to do in your scene, even if you don't have the tools to do it.
3. The strategy guide can only be accessed by exiting the game, which is ludicrous. Other top quality games actually not open the guide within the game, but take you directly to the page you need for the scene you're in (Empress of the Deep).
Other than these things which I find annoying, I enjoyed the game.
Ok story line but the scene transitions (load) slowly and there is a lot of back and forth so you have to wait. The tapping in the HO scenes and other areas lags or isn't very sensitive because you have to tap many times on some objects before it registers. I also don't like it when they don't have names to go with inventory items. Some objects are not obvious what they are for. The directions for one of the first mini games (snake door) were not very accurate AND the snake tongue wouldn't stay with my finger 2/3 of the time so it would fault and I'd have to start the sequence over so it was highly frustrating to pass. Thankfully the games after that seemed to work better or I would have just deleted the game right then. I buy the large majority of Big Fish games, especially when they have the initial release discount and am not very hard to please but I won't be buying this one because I just wasn't enjoying myself. I felt like I was just trying to get through it. Not going to spend money for that.
