Great but (Battery) draining game
I didn't think I'd like this but for free, it was worth a shot. I'm so glad that I did. Despite the compaints others had regarding automatic placements, I didn't think it had such a negative impact on my play experience. What did, however, was the affect Strategery had on my battery. On my 3rd Gen Ipod Touch, latest OS, with no apps multitasking in the background and a full charge, I can MAYBE squeeze an hour of gameplay before getting the 20% battery message. This doesn't happen with any other application, music, or video playing. This is the sole reason why I haven't opted to upgrade to the full version. If this indeed an issue that affects both versions, and a fix is issued, then I will gladly pay for the upgrade. Until then, I'll hold off. But it should still be said that this game, as simplified as it is, is superb and HIGHLY addicting.
The computer cheats
Battles are won by adding the total of the dice, if you have 5 armies you get 5 dice. It seems like my armies roll 1s and 2s way too much causing my 3 armies to lose against a single army or my 8 armies to lose against 4 armies.
The "auto" placing of armies after your turn also seemed skewed towards placing them buried in your empire more often than on border areas where they would do some good. In the lite version I play it as a handicap against me (and it is), but I get so frustrated that it makes me not want to buy the full version.
Upgrade the random number generator, let us place our armies in the lite version, and maybe (maybe?) give us access to a really big map and I would consider buying the full version. Not having army placement has worked against them using this to hook players into buying the full version.
Fun Game But It Gets "Stuck"
I really enjoy playing this game but I have 2 big issues with it. As some other reviewers have said, I can't play more than one game at a time because at the end of the game the entire thing freezes. Neither tapping or shaking will bring up a new map. Tapping the back button does no good either. I have to close out the app completely and open again to play a new game.
The second limitation, again as other reviewers have said, is the fact that bonus armies all get stuck in the back rather than being placed in border countries. They should either allow manual placement or add a fortification round that allows movement of armies from one country to another.
I like the game otherwise but am reluctant to purchase the full version.
