Strategic Game of Life: Conway's Game of Life reimagined as a strategic campaign of levels to beat.
Unlike most "sandbox" versions of Game of Life, this version has specific objectives and levels to complete. Objectives include triggering a goal, not triggering an anti-goal, reaching a threshold of player owned tiles, not reaching a threshold of enemy tiles.
What's New in Version 0.9.1
Level data is now being downloaded from a new server. Older versions of the game will continue to play, but won't receive updates.
Great concept | needs more levels
I'm surprised there aren't a lot more games like these on the App Store. Cellular automata is fun to mess around with alone and adding an actual objective and obstacles makes playing with the cells feel more meaningful. This app is mostly a good execution but its major flaw is it lacks a good supply of levels. There are only 21 at the moment and they can be burned through quickly. The levels focus on the glider, the spaceship, and chaos and a few are simply tutorial and demonstration of conway's game of life. There is a ranking system for levels and you can earn a higher rank if you meet certain expectations implied in the level's name or stated by the level's briefing. For what it is now it works, although it really should see more levels in the future.
