Don’t do the Pioneer Square tour
The app kept kicking us out every time I left my phone idle for more than 10 minutes so we’d have to wait for the splash screen to load, then click through 3 choice option screens to get to back to where we left off. Ridiculous. The tour was disorganized: moving up and down the same streets multiple times instead of in a linear or circular pattern. You can’t choose what order you do things in, and you can’t go backwards if you skip a challenge. There were multiple small mistakes, and 1 big navigational error in the 12 challenges we tried (out of 20). Also, walking up and down Pioneer Square is not fun when there’s so many vagrants in this area of town that are aggressive about asking you for money. The last straw was when I left feedback on their website form, the last page of the survey said, "Thanks for your feedback and we're thrilled you had a good time! If you wouldn't mind helping us spread the word, we'd really appreciate you taking a couple of minutes to review your experience.” I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or scream, thus I took the extra time to write this scathing review.
Great way to see a city!
I did Stray Boots' tour of Chicago earlier this year. Even though I had been to Chicago several times and was with the friend I was visiting (who has lived in Chicago for a number of years), we had a great time hunting around the city.
I love to learn trivia about the places I visit, so all of the random facts the Stray Boots app provided were great. Plus, I had never seen the Tiffany dome before - it was gorgeous! Big plus that the tour brought me somewhere new.
The app was easy to use and it was great that we could move at our own pace, break for lunch or drinks, etc. I would definitely recommend spending an afternoon seeing the city this way.
These are fun. My first two tours were in NOLA, which were fantastic!!!! It was funny to hit the same sites with the tourist groups and get similar information for a fraction of the cost. There were also great pieces of info about buildings one might walk by and never give a second glance at. Took another tour of Boston, which I didn't care for as much. It basically covered pretty much everything on the Freedom Trail with a few suggestions on the side for places to eat that were could be found in any guide book as a top choice. That said, when I visit a city, I generally look to see if Stray Boots has a tour.
