So it's finally been fixed in the app store after nearly 3 months. The finest side scrolling 2D action brawler ever made. Is this port perfect though? Nope. The sound is to bass heavy and the controls should be able to be configured like Mortal Kombat 3. The core game is truly a rock solid 5 out of 5, easily besting Double Dragon and even Final Fight, as both have severely limited character and move sets.
The sound issue is odd though considering the original which I still own, was one of the few Genesis games with superb and clear stereo sound. Subsequent ports held true as well, save for this one. It does cost too much as well, given the price of other apps of better coding or port quality.
Bring on Revenge of Shinobi, that is if Sega can hopefully fix the Spiderman boss licensing issue which has prevented it from being on any official compilations.
Good port, but sound needs work.
It's about as good a port as can be expected on an idevice. The graphics are identical to the original, with full screen and transparent overlay buttons, and original resolution in a smaller window with solid buttons on the border. My only complaint is the sound. It's way too bass-heavy and even the character select music sounds really bad, which is the first song you hear.
It would be really cool if there was online multiplayer capability, but at least fix the sound. There's no reason it should sound so out of whack like that.
If you love Streets of Rage 2 like I did as a child playing it several times on my Game Gear then this game in terms of gameplay and graphics is a nice port. The touch pad takes some adjusting but I adapted to it pretty quick. The sound however is broken and that's important to me. It blares, crackles, and sometimes doesn't even register. Reason why I give this 2 stars until this is fixed. (It would be 2.5 but rounded it down) The music and sound were something I remember fondly and this bug or glitch is murdering my childhood memories. Fix this!
